I'm thinking about picking up one of these, a local dealer has two for $399.00, but I haven't been able to find much information about them. From what I understand, it is a 9mm handgun the same size as the Kahr K9, with a stainless slide and aluminum alloy frame instead of a stainless frame like the K9. Kahr doesn't have much information about it on their website, has it just come out, or is it an older model, or what? This seems like a remarkable deal on a Kahr, I just want to make sure it's up to the same standards as their other 9mm pistols. Anybody have any info on the E9 (I would have used the search feature, but the search engine can't search for anything using less than three characters)?

The e9 is a great deal. IT is the still a steel frame. The difference is that it only comes with one magazine, it is a little ruffer finish and and the front site is press fitted as oppossed to dovetailed in. Funtionally it is the same.

ajacobs pretty much nailed it. It is all steel but is two tone. Sometimes the slide is black and the frame is SS and sometimes it is the other way around. I had one with the black slide and SS grip frame. It has a plastic front sight instead of the pinned metal one found on the K9. It is a K-9 in all other respects with compleat parts interchangeability. The quality is just as high but it may not have as nice a finish as the K-9. The trigger is the old standard style and not the "Elite" trigger but mine was very smooth and light after 1000 rounds and some oil.

Great gun for the money. I paid $399 about 6 years ago so it sounds like a deal. Kahr stopped making the E-9 for some reason but all K-9 parts will work if you should need them.

I recomend getting it if you can. I am sorry I ever sold mine and am looking for a another Kahr.

better watch out, some folks might call you a "moonie" LOL.

the thread got closed before i could ask: so what is a moonie? and why are some folks intimidated by them? i hear them called a cult..ect but no one is able to say what it is excatly that is wrong with them.

get the kahr man. thats my opinion. they are great guns and quality is second to none in the ones ive had.

Sounds great. Looks like I'll be getting the Kahr :).

If you want to know more about the Moonies, do a Google search on Rev. Sun Myung Moon. That should turn up everything you want to know.

E9

Oracle,

Glad to hear you're getting a Kahr. I have owned an E9 for just about a year now. In fact I just got it back from Kahr a couple of days ago. The gun would fire FMJs all day long, but had a consistent problem feeding a JHP. I contacted Kahr and the jumped right on it. Got it back with a fresh (stronger) recoil spring, and a polished feed ramp. Works great now!

I srongly reccommend the Kahr design and especially the E9. If you are considering one, make sure you get a good look at the barrel. If the feed ramp is blackened or has a reddish ting to it, you may want to send it to kahr right off the bat to get it polished.

The finish is not cheap, but it is what I would call basic. Mine is the two toned version (blackened frame, stainless slide) and I got mine with (2) mags (guess I got lucky). $399 sounds about right as far as the price goes, and keep in mind there is lots of good leather available as well.

Enjoy it and let us know how everything turns out!

God Bless!

My Kahr E-9 would sometimes jam with CCI Blazer and Wollf ammo but would feed any brass cased ammo 100%. My feedramp had that black coating on it so I polished it off and it would feed all ammo just fine after that.

You may want to go ahead and buy an extra power recoil spring also. After 1000 rounds, my gun started to show some wear and after 2000 rounds, it was getting pretty beat up. The slide seemed to slamming into the bbl enough that it was starting to smash part of it flat. I think Kahr recomends changing the recoil spring every couple of thousand rounds and I think that is a good idea.

The E9 I had had a couple of other differences you may notice. . .

Hard plastic grips instead of the tacky (read grippy-not appearance tacky) rubber grips of the K9s. I actually prefer the hard grips for carry, don't catch on the clothes so much.

The slide lacks some machining work done on the K9s. If you'll compare the two, you'll notice this. In my opinion it is mostly cosmetic. Can be argued that it rounds the edges making it more comfortable to carry.

Price-wise, I think $399 is too much. I think I paid $330 for mine NIB.

It's going to be the wife's gun, she has smaller hands, and really prefers a thinner gun. She really likes the Kahrs, so I'm going to get it for her tomorrow.

This E9 has the Hogue-like rubber grips on it, and it's a stainless slide over a blued/blackened reciever. It does look nice, I think my wife will like it a lot.

I bought mine on a whim (the only gun I've ever bought spur of the moment), then sold it on a whim. Kind of wish I hadn't now.

In all honesty, in my area, the E9 doesn't make a lot of sense if you add in the cost of a magazine. After buying the extra magazine, you are within a few dollars of a K9. Add to that the difficulty of adding night sights (should that ever be an issue) and you're better off just buying the K9

The K9's around here usually go for around $500.00, at least, those that I've seen. An additional magazine shouldn't set me back $100.00, so I think that the $399.00 price is pretty good.

Are you fixed on a brand new Kahr? I got my like new with box Kahr K9 Covert for $400 even out the door. I almost got the E9 but I liked the engraved Kahr on the regular version better! :)

I'm not fixed on a brand new Kahr, but I've looked my butt off, and haven't seen any used Kahrs at the gun shops in the area. Plenty of used everything else, no used Kahrs. It looks like people get the Kahrs and keep them, not trade them off.

BTW, I picked up the E9 for my wife today. Took it home, took it apart, lubed it, put it back together, and examined it pretty well. It's a really nice, well made gun, and my wife really likes it. Fits her hands like a glove. I'm pretty pleased with my purchase, thanks everyone for all the suggestions and info!

good luck with the new gun, and safe shooting. i think you picked a winner.

I owned an E9 several years ago.

Didn't have any problems with it other than it didn't accept 10-round mags.

Sorry Rev!

But the barrels of my guns are shipped with a black protective coating or blueing on the feed ramps.

All you need to do is drop $50 on a Dremel, get some felt tip wheels, some Flitz metal polish, some BreakFree and some very very light sandpaper.

Wet sand the feed ramp with the oil very lighly just to knock off the blueing so you can see the bare sliver metal but don't change any angles.

Wipe off the oil and the sand.

Bust out the Dremel on low speed with some Flitz on the felt wheel and apply lightly.

8 minutes to a mirror shiney feed ramp that will feed rat turds in bullet cases.

No need to send off to polish a feed ramp.

Standard procedure for all of my newly-purchased guns. Just did my Kahr PM9 two weeks ago.

Again, as to the E9, it is a good gun for the money and will serve her well. I recommend them highly.
