Ok, why not, these threads seldom help me make up my mind and I know you've got to hold them all and preferably shoot them all, but why not, for fun I post this opinion poll: Which compact 9mm should I next get for concealed carry, a Kahr K9, a CZ RAMI 9mm, or a Glock 26?
I didn't consider a Kahr until I held one and it was quite nice, naturaly pointed and thin, good size and weight, I loved that I could get my pinky on the grip. I also held a CZ, again, good pointing gun, nice feel, a little thicker, but shorter in the grip, I like the DA or Cocked and Locked way you can carry it. I have a Glock 17 and my Dad has a Glock 19, my wife passed her CHL with a Glock 19, I did with my Glock 36, I know the trigger and the gun and so does the wife.
Are there any negatives of the Kahr? Its not a HUGE name out there like Glock is and I know about the Rev. Moon thing, no need in bringing that up.
CZ? I don't like DA/SA much, but with cocked and locked does that matter so much?
The Glock is a little thick, but again, any negatives really?
Thank you for your opinions.

It's been difficult for me to find places to try out CZ pistols, so I have no opinion on them. I've held the subcompact Glocks, didn't care for them. Kahr K9 fits my hand best of all.

jmm

Well as much as I like the Glocks ability to be run over by a Jeep on a gravel road and look perfect and as much as I love CZ's........I picked the Kahr.
Its just to perfect of a design........thin has more benefit than short, fat and stubby IMO in a carry gun. If you carry a Kahr IWB.......you wont even know you have a gun on.....let alone anyone else.............
Shoot well.

I just bought a new G26 today. It is a little bigger and heavier than my Kahr PM9, but holds 10+1 rounds. I'll keep the Kahr cuz I really like it. I also have a Browning HP to round out my 9mm fleet.

I really wanted a 600 Nitro pocket gun that holds 15 rounds, weighs 20 oz and kicks like a 22, but I couldn't find one.

I'd prefer the Kahr P9 or PM9. Excellent trigger.

The RAMI has an advantage -- while thicker (and, arguably, less concealable than the Kahr) -- the RAMI has a larger capacity and can be carried cocked and locked. Good trigger which can be made very good with tuning.

The Glock is a fine gun, and has higher capacity, but they feel awkward in my hand. They might feel that way in yours. Triggers are Glock triggers; you like them or hate them. I think they're fine.

I voted Kahr even though I own and carry a RAMI 9mm (it's a fine gun, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone). Thinner and smaller are priorities in a carry piece.

I voted for the G26. It feels better to me than the Rami, and I prefer a single trigger pull. It's been 100% reliable for me as well, and more accurate than I could have imagined.

I may look into a MK9 in the spring for easier concealed carry in our warm NC summer:cool:

No experience with the RAMI (though I've had good luck with other CZs). However, I was looking for a carry gun a few months back and compared the G26, Kahr K9, and S&W 908. Of these three, the Kahr fit me the best by far, with the S&W a close second. I wound up buying the Kahr and have not regretted the purchase one bit. The reliability of mine has been on par with other all-metal Kahrs, which is to say perfect (though my fingers are still crossed).

Bear in mind, my decision was based largely on the way the gun felt to me. Everyone's different.

I dont have any experience with a RAMI, but I do own and G26 and have handled the Kahr. I went with the G26 because it seemed to fit my hand better at the time. The only thing I will say though is that it's bigger the the Kahr and thus harded to conceal. Due to restrictions in my state it's near impossible to get a Kahr, but if I could find one I would buy it. I would then make it my primary carry piece.

Kel-Tec P11

Kel-Tec P11

The Kahr is a little thinner, but the KT has 11 rounds & mine has been flawless. ~$250 with tax for the parkerized version leaves you enough change to get a BUG & accesories for both............

CZ pistols are top-notch guns, and are at least the equals of much more expensive pistols (e.g. Beretta, which seem ridiculously overpriced when you shoot them side by side with equivalent CZ's). Perfect fit and finish, excellent service triggers, long pull in single-action but smooth and light, suitable for extensive target shooting, but safe for use against live targets that you might not want to accidentally shoot.

If you want the mechanics of a Glock, hell, get a G26, if you like that sort of thing. Simple to operate carry gun. Not foolproof though, so if you're a fool, get something with a safety and/or a real DA first shot! Some funny/disturbing videos are out there of cops accidentally shooting them in classrooms, etc.

Kahr gets great reviews, though I haven't had the privelege of shooting one. They are pricey, but objectively, stainless is probably worth more than tupperware.

All things considered, I'd go CZ unless you have a specific need for a brick-shaped DAO. Never met someone who had shot a CZ and didn't like it. I have met someone who shoots a stock CZ97's against 1911's in competition and does well. My favorite .45, at least out of the box; and for under $500, it has no competition.

Thanks for the feedback

I appreciate all the feedback so far.
As for a Kel-tec, I have heard enough bad things they don't interest me much and having held a few, the quality does not seem to be very high.
I would like to know what the "other" voters would recommend?
One reason I like the DAO Glock and Kahr is that my wife is a lefty and she may carry this gun also, but carrying the CZ with it decocked and safety off would be basically the same.
Keep it coming!

PS. I made the mistake of showing my wife that HORRIBLE cartoon video Kahr did with the Nazi Glock toter and she is somewhat anti-Kahr now..as was I until I held one, so I will try and get her to hold one and see if she can forget the stupidness of their marketing like I did.

You know no marketing dept is perfect.............GASTONS is "perfection", CZ has people ripping them off as the "original CZ"......:banghead:
Tell your wife to chill and get the gun she wants........well, both of you.

The KT is a fine pc of weaponry. Ive had everygun on your list and their is a P11 in my pocket as I type this. Ive had 3 P11's and all have been as reliable as any gun Ive ever owned. Its just cheaper than the Kahrs I love so much.

Shoot well.

Are you married? Becasue I'm not telling my wife "to chill"! I am just gently trying to persuade her to forget the trash that Kahr marketing put out!

I voted for the K9 because the P9 was not on your list. I have both and would carry the P9 because of the weight and durability. poppy

I'd recommend the Glock 26 since you and your wife are already Glock users and are familiar with them. The 26 is an amazing pistol and just may surprise you at how accurate it shoots. The hump on the backstrap is in just the right place to lock the pistol into your hand with the middle and ring finger, just let your little finger curl underneath the magazine.

question

A question for the CZers: Can the RAMI be carried uncocked and locked? Hammer down, safety on? For some reason I have it in my mind that you couldn't put the safety on when the hammer was down.

I carry a Kahr K-9 and it fits my hand much better than a Glock 26. I don't mind giving up a couple of rds to carry a much better pistol that feels better and is much slimmer. The K-9 is one of the best pistols to ever be made. I have had a LOT of guns in my life and the K-9 is still my number one pick and my favorite.

I voted Kahr, I had one and sold it. I regret that. It was my first auto handgun. My first CCW gun. I could shoot very well with it.

I now have a RAMI. While I like it alot. The Kahr was a better carry gun.

The only thing the RAMI has over the KAHR is extra rounds. But it is nothing to have an extra KAHR magazine in your pocket.

.................

I recommend the Kahr K9. I have one of the older electroless nickel K9 and it has performed flawlessly. It fits my hand very comfortably and points naturally. The DAO trigger is the smoothest and lightest I've ever experienced in a semi-auto handgun and it is quite accurate. I carry mine in a Kramer IWB #2 holster and do not notice it's weight at all. I wouldn't want to try to stuff in a pocket though.

I have a Glock 19 & 23 that I like pretty well. I have shot the G26, but I do not like the feel of the short grip at all. I just don't like the way my pinky finger is left off the grip and the brick-like dimensions of the pistol. I will admit that the G26 shoots very well however.

I have no experience with the CZ other than peering down at one through the glass of a gun display case. It looked a little bigger than the Kahr and the Glock we are comparing it to here.

Correct. The safety can only be activated when the gun is cocked.
