Hey guys, I'm gonna recieve my CHL in the mail in a couple weeks and I've been lookin for a decent setup for my Sig P226. I've decided it's too big for me to comfortably conceal so I'd like your opinions on other guns. My gun will be a 9mm and I've narrowed it down to two, the Kahr K9 and the Sig P239. What would you guys get and why? I've heard great things about both of them...

Awhile back, I was down to the same two choices. I took a chance on the K9 because it simply fit me better. So far, it has been a very good choice in all areas. Good fit & finish, reliability, and accuracy.

I was looking at much the same decision. I ended up with the Kahr mainly because I don't like the DA/SA transition of the Sig. They're both fine guns. If it weren't for the DA/SA thing I would probably have given the nod to the Sig as I shoot the Sig better (except for that first shot).

I had the same choice and went with the Sig just because I had trouble getting a good fit with the Kahr trigger (always seemed to pinch me at the end).

Either one does the job. If you go with the Sig, think about Hogue grips. They make an unbelievable difference.

I also had to make this choice not once but twice.:D The first time I chose a Kahr E-9 because it was a little less expensive than the SIG and the second time, I chose the K-9 because I liked my E-9 so much. I should never have sold the E-9 because it fit me like no other gun had ever fit me. It was a great gun but my new K-9 is an even better gun.:what:

Good points about SIG 239:

1. Price is often a little less than the Kahr.

2. A true double action gun with second strike ability in case you get a dud primer on the first shot.

Bad points to the SIG 239:

1. Grip doesn't fit me as well as the Kahr.

2. High bore axis, this is a really bad trait in a gun that needs to feel instinctive. When it sits high in the hand, you tend to feel disconected to the gun.

3. DA/SA throws of shooting in almost everyone. The first shot is often wild and the second may go off too soon. With enough practice, you can get used to it but at first, it is a major hurdle to good shooting.

Good points to the Kahr:

1. For me at least, it is an ergonomic dream. This is how guns should fit!

2. Low bore axis. Makes recoil feel less and points better.

3. Same trigger feel for each shot.

4. Blocky and square slide top acts as a plane for sighting. It helps you find the sights faster.

5. Grips that come with it are great, Hogue grips already on it. With the SIG, you have to buy them separate, add $20 to your price.

6. Did I mention how much better it feels in my hand than the SIG?:D

Since your big gun is a Sig, give extra consideration to the 239. Sig controlls are so unique that mabey the 239 will be more natural under stress.
I am switching IDPA guns fron Glock to Sig and memorizing the controlls takes time.

The K9 is smaller and more comfortable, but the P239 has a better trigger. Of course, with practice, you can be very accurate with the Kahr.

Anyone know which grip is longer? I have pretty big hands but I need a smaller gun so I dont print. I do alot of really active things...

You might want to add in for consideration the SIG P225. It's another single-stack 9mm, but the grip fits a lot of people's hands who find the P239 to be a bit small.

Narrowed it down to the same two pistols. Went with the Kahr because it was thinner and felt better balanced in my hand. I have a P228 and love it, so my first thought was P239. It seemed to bulky for me for CCW. Can't go wrong with either, pick which one feels best to you. If you can shoot them both, do it. Good Luck!!

If you are convinced about either being fine for your preference in terms of feel, size, concealability, etc., I would recommend the Sig. I have a 229 and a 239 as well as a Kahr MK-40 and PM-9. The MK-40 took much to get it running reliably, but it now is completely reliable. The PM-9 still needs some more breaking in to do (it jammed twice on Corbon 115's during the first session of shooting). But the Sigs ran flawless out of the box. In fact, they have been the most reliable guns I own. They are very accurate and smooth to shoot. They just feel like mechanical art.

I also prefer the DA trigger of the Sigs over the DAO feel of the Kahrs. Both have long resets, but the Sig is a little better in this regard. Plus, the SA part of the Sig trigger is much more preferable for follow-up shots.

The bottom line for me is that the Sigs are among the finest guns you can buy. Kahrs are very good, but not quite on the same level. Just my opinion. Good luck.

The Para Warthog is going to be a thicker gun, if you IWB carry it can be an issue.
You know Kimber makes the BP10 (with the lower polymer grip) made so it is a 10 rnd double stack but no wider than a standard 1911?
I mention this because they sell for under $600 compared to Para Ord $$$

As much as I love the Kahr K-9, to be honest, I haven't really heard any bad things about the SIG 239. Both are well made guns that preform better than they should. The Kahr felt like it was made for me while the SIG just felt like another gun. Try both in your hands and maybe shoot them if you can and then decide. At least pick up the Kahr next to the Sig to make a choice.
