Oh Hi Oh
I made a trip to the range today. Decided to rent a Sig P226 just for kicks. Wish I hadn't. I REALLY liked it. Made me set my Glock aside for the rest of my visit. I more or less lost interest in single/double action pistols after selling my less-than-stellar Beretta a few years ago. Sadly, I think the Sig has rekindled an interest. So, now a few questions. I probably will not be interested in the P226 since I'm not necessarily looking to replace my Glock 19. I am however considering the Sig P239 for carry.

1. Any comments from anyone who carries the P239?

2. Is the P239 as smooth-shooting as the P226? I realize it's smaller but recoil has not been much of an issue for me.

3. Any comments on the P239 in 9mm vs .40 caliber? I'm comfortable shooting the S&W 642 with +P ammo and I don't find the recoil of the Kahr PM9 offensive. I've had very little experience shooting .40 except for a Glock 27 that I rented once upon a time. Unfortunately the range does not have a P239 for rent so I can't try one out.

All comments and wisdom regarding the above will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The P239 is every bit as smooth as a P226. IMHO P239s tend to have the best SA/DA of the Classic SIGs. The ergos are just right for a single stack. I've never had a problem with a P239. One thing about them is that you need to smack the mags for them to sit right. I don't like the muzzle flip on the P239-40. The P239-9 feels just right for me.

Contact www.ordnanceoutsellers.com before you buy. They've got great prices and service.

All SIG's I've ever fired have been great but if you're not set in stone that you want a compact I think that you also should give the Sig Pro a try . I really don't notice that great of a difference in .40 vs 9mm in my carry guns but I'm not that recoil sensative : the bigger bullet vs more bangs will be debated ad infinitum , it's entirely a matter of personal preference . Of all SIG's , the 239 works the least well for me but it's entirely a personal preference that I don't care much for the grip - I usually go to either end of their spectrum and carry a P230 or SP2340/P220 .

I carry the p239 in .357, and I love it. I'm approaching 3000 rounds without a malfunction. Even though I tend to rotate carry-guns every few months, this is the one I find myself grabbing by default.

Smoothest trigger of any of my Sigs (and that's saying ALOT), wonderful ergonomics, and more accurate than most fullsize pistols out there. I used to have one in 9mm, and it was also a joy to shoot. I'd recommend it without pause. I've never been a fan of the .40cal round, but check out the .357SIG round. Ammo is a bit pricey, but it's incredibly accurate and potent.
