Kahr P45 Magazine Capacity Modification

One factor I don't think was mentioned is slide velocity.
These micro guns necessarily have slides that move fast and with a short amount of travel necessitated by the small size.

If a magazine spring is cut off or too weak, the spring simply can't raise the next round up into the feed lips in time to allow the slide to catch and feed the round.
This will usually be indicated by the slide closing on an empty chamber, or by various mis-feed problems.

These tiny autos are operating right on the edge of what's possible. What you can get away with in a larger gun just doesn't work in a small design.
I can assure you that Justin Moon and his engineers have investigated and tested the magazine extensively, and if they could offer the owner a gun with one more round of ammo by shorting a spring, they certainly would have.

If you are referring to my user name, it refers to a point where my training and maturity reached the point where I realized that the accuracy, control and flexibility of a properly selected 9mm most fully served my needs. It was an end to my search for a hardware solution to a software problem.

That might all be a elaborate way of saying that I found that the .40 S&W didn't offer any practical advantages over the 9x19mm in the LE environment

9mmepiphany - that's what I was wondering. I reached that same conclusion several months ago. I prefer to carry and shoot my 9mm to everything else... but it can be size prohibitive sometimes. I originally bought the P45 thinking that I wanted to carry the biggest round possible in a single stack configurations... but now, I don't really think the round really matters that much. I've come to the conclusion that, for argument sake and with high end ammunition, the popular autoloader cartridges (9mm, 40, .45, etc.) are so close in performance that the marginal differences in raw data are functionally immaterial. For the past few months, I've been thinking about selling the P45 for a similar sized 9mm. I really like the gun though... so... I decided I'm going to keep it. Maybe I'll buy small 9mm anyway...

I also own a Kahr P9 and if you're O.K. with 9mm, it definately has it's advantages. Such as 7+1 in a smaller (in every dimension), lighter and it's also much cheaper to feed. The 8 rd. mags are about the same length as the 6 rd. P45 mag! It's so thin that I find it mandatory to put two bicycle inner tubes on the grip but I use one on the P45 and P40. My P9 and P45 are more reliable than my P40. For pocket go for the PM9. The PM45 is just slightly smaller than the P9/40 anyway.

Yeah, I remember when I was buying the gun the PM45 was on the list but I took it off due to the shorter barrel, reduced round count, and dimensions relative to comparable models. I didn't feel like the PM45 was really a "pocket" gun so I didn't feel the size savings were of any real benefit to me... Plus I just liked the way the P45 felt.

I've been thinking about adding a P9 or a K9 to the armory. I'll have to do a forum search for opinions on those guns at some point.
