I have a PM9 already. I am considering a MK9, thinking that the full steel frame would have noticeably less recoil than the polymer PM9.

However, now I am reading some claims on some forums that the recoil between the two is not much different at all.

Anyone here have both? Opinions?

All I will say is that the PM9 is strange in the fact that, for its size, it has very little recoil. I think mine has less than full size 9mm's.....again, not sure why?

Agree with Wow, in that PM/CM9 are very mild recoil for what they are.

I do have an MK9 as well - my brain is telling me it shoots a bit softer, but I haven't shot them side by side in over a year.

You mention 'noticeably less recoil' - I don't recall shooting them side by side and thinking I vastly preferred either.
That said, MK9 feels to me like a higher quality handgun, likely due to the steel construction.

I say buy one...just temper your expectations as to what you consider noticeably less recoil

Well, I hate dot/post - so I'd be spending a pretty sweet penny for an MK9 with 3 dot night sights, just to get 3 dot sights...

I'd want something noticeable, or I'd be irritated for spending all that $. That's why I was asking if it was really worth another $700+, then find out that they aren't that much different afterall...

Own both...sorta

I have a CM9 and the MK9. I would say they both shoot better than they have a right to...being so small. I enjoy shooting the MK more than the CM however the recoil IMO is not different enough that I would prefer to carry the MK over the CM for that reason alone. The MK IS too heavy for me to pocket carry, and for that reason it mostly just sees range time while the CM is pocket carried quite a bit. You could try checking the gunsites for some low recoiling carry ammo if that is a problem.

Its my guess and only a guess, as I only have the PM9 is that there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference. I believe the polymer PM frame soaks up the recoil by the frame having flex to it, but the MK frame bing steel doesn't. On the other hand being steel and a heavier pistol the MK handles the recoil by having more weight to it then the PM. So I think its pretty much a wash, with maybe a slight edge to the MK. LM

Yes, I suspect that this is probably, and would make it not worth the purchase...

I had an MK9, but it was too heavy for pocket carry and I traded it for a PM9. I honestly didn't notice that much of a difference in recoil - they're both excellent pistols.

I have shot my father's MK9 and my CM9 (basically the exact same pistol as a PM9) back-to-back on numerous occasions.

As far as I can tell, there is NO difference in recoil. I admit I found this surprising. Both are surprisingly soft-shooting for what they are.

Though the recoil is the same, the CM9/PM9 may actually be easier to hold for follow-up shots due to the aggressive checkering/serrations on the frontstrap and backstrap, compared to the smoother grip of the MK9.

Ok, thanks for the information

For some unexplained reason it appears that my polymer framed pistols actually appear to soak up more of the recoil when compared to similar sized metal framed semi autos.

I've fired my MK9 sequentially with a friend's polymer CW9 at the range one day.

The difference was noticeable. The CW9 was a little 'snappier'. (Not painful or anything, but I did notice a difference.)

The MK9 is a great pistol, but it is heavy. I bought it originally for pocket carry. But I kept getting annoyed at the weight, so it kept migrating to an OWB holster, where it was very concealable. Then it occurred to me that if I was carrying OWB anyway, I could get a bigger pistol with a trigger I actually liked, so my Springfield EMP has largely replaced it. The MK9 has been relegated to the safe lately. (In fact, I'm starting to wonder if I should sell it...but that's a different question.)
