got kahr, did the break-in with winchester 115 gr fmj value pack , got 115 gr jhp for creek shooting also , wondering if the 135 grain hydra-shock federal is to much for polymer pistol carry ammo and if not how much do i need to shoot to deem reliable, $10 / 20 yiks thanks for any inf.

I don't think any standard-pressure 9mm. round would be inappropriate for the PM9. However, given the short barrel, I'd respectfully suggest that you go for a lighter round, in the 115gr. range, to get as much velocity as possible out of it. The 135gr. and 147gr. rounds will be slowed substantially by the short barrel, and might not expand as well.

I don't know how good +P or +P+ ammo. will be in the polymer-frame PM9. It will certainly function, but I don't know if it will beat up the gun over time. You might want to check this with Kahr.

I just bought one. Love the size and weight. Fired 300 rounds through it, mixed factory ammo. Noticed when I got home, the back right side of the barrel hood has the dookie beat out of it from hitting the slide when going into battery. Stoned off the burr it had kicked up and fired another 100 rounds, its still doing it. Compared it to my 5 year old Kahr MK9, it has no wear and has over a thousand rounds through it, alot of that is Federal +P+. So, its going back to Kahr. I have absolute faith in the gun and the company. something was either misaligned or had a bad heat treat.

The MK9 is designed to be able to handle +P+ ammo. I don't know about the PM9, but I would suspect the same. They are such neat little guns, about the only way to make them better is if they accepted Browing Hi-Power magazines.

I don't have a PM9. I have one of the older MK9s. I really like it, although it is a brick.

The MK9 is rated for +P 9mm. Not sure about the PM9.

One thing I am sure about. The +P in that little MK9 sucker is a handful.

I shoot 115g Win Silvertips in my MK9 and find that is a good round for the tiny gun. I hit what I aim at anyway. And they feed good to boot being a shorter bullet. I have had some problems with the longer 124 and 147g stuff.

I remember reading the story about the insanely stupid attempted robbery of a gun shop :scrutiny: in CA where the cretin was shot twice in the chest by one of the guys behind the counter. I believe he shot him with a Glock in .45 ACP with a short barrel (30 maybe?). He had some pretty hot JHP rounds in the gun, like 127 or 135 gr. After it was all over, the cops recovered the slugs and they HAD NOT expanded as advertised. Apparently the barrel of the gun was too short and the bullet too heavy and they didn't expand properly. Of course, it being a .45, the criminal was deader than Julius Caesar, regardless.

That would indicate to me that with a semi-auto CCW gun, it's best to go with a lower grain bullet in JHP, particularly with a 9mm or something else smaller than a .45.
