my NYPD Kahr
I don't know if this is an NYPD trigger issue or something else. I just purchased a black steel K9 (K9094C) which came with the NY trigger. Cleaned it and went to the range. I shot a box (100) of Winchester white box ball ammo, 16x rounds Speer 124gr +p GDHP and 16x rounds Corbon DPX. On about the third magazine of WWB the magazine popped loose on the second round. It had been firmly seated with the mag release button clicking into place - you could feel it and hear it. Re-seated the magazine and continued firing. On the first magazine of DPX the magazine popped loose again, this time on the first round. I reseated the magazine and attempted to cycle the slide and it would not move to the rear. Continued to play with it for a few minutes (it had fired and ejected the empty) and finally touched the trigger lightly while attempting to move the slide. When I did that it came to the rear easily. I continued shooting, took it home and cleaned it well. The slide will not move to the rear with no magazine in the pistol. The big problem is that if you load the K9 and remove the magazine you cannot cycle the slide to remove the shell from the chamber without lightly TOUCHING THE TRIGGER. Bad news.
I know the operator's manual says not to allow the striker to go forward without a magazine in the pistol as it may damage the striker block? I don't understand why they should design a pistol, without a magazine disconnect, when it could be damaged by firing without a magazine in it.
Again, I have no idea if this is related to the NY trigger or not. To be fair, Kahr, when advised of the problem this morning, sent me an RMA # immediately. So, I am going to give them the opportunity to make it right.
My other two pistols are both SIGs and this replaced a SIG 239. It also cost more than a SIG 239 (by a bunch). I have never had any problem with my SIGs (a 229 9mm and a 245) Again, to be fair to Kahr I really like the way this K9 feels, handles and the accuracy of it. It will outshoot either of my SIGs. Now I just need to be confident it functions correctly. It was intended to be a summer gun and backup to my 245.
