I have a line on a good deal for an NYPD K9. Is there much noticeable difference between the standard and NYPD trigger? It's an extra 1/8" of travel, which doesn't seem like much, but who knows. Could it be easily converted back to the standard pull?

The NYPD trigger is actually the original Kahr trigger.
Newer premium models have the shorter "Elite" trigger.

The Elite trigger assembly can be retrofitted to most Kahr's.

Actually, a lot of us prefer the original/NYPD trigger because it feels just like a tuned S&W "K" frame revolver trigger and is safer due to the longer pull.

wonj't notice

have um both, one on the k9 NY trigger and regular on my PM9, I really can't tell the difference. I would not spend any money to change over either one. Super trigger system no doubt about that.

Find out the history of this K9. Is it NY-used, or new overstock? NY is no longer allowing the K9 anymore. If someone had one, they can keep it.
Kahr had to rebuild all of those that were in service. Due to QC issues, and supposedly the springs weren't holding up.

It was actually in service. If it has been reworked, would you say it's ok? Or did they have issues even after rebuilding?

nothing wrong

nothing wrong with ur k9, what that fella said about them having issues is not right either..

I had an old style K9 with the longer trigger pull. I didn't much like it compared to the shorter "elite" trigger. If I were to buy another Kahr it would have to have the shorter trigger.

Exactly what the situation was with the NYPD and Kahr is uncertain.

The NYPD said they had problems, which they blamed on Kahr, but strangely, no other department had any issues with the K9, and few K9 owners have had problems with the guns.

1/8 difference???

wow, I sure can't tell if it has a 1/8" longer trigger pull. I don't think any kahrs come today with the NYtrigger in them..

Oh, so are you saying I'm wrong?
Then please tell me what the problem was then?
Please tell me why they are no longer on the authorized off duty list for new purchases.
Please tell me why there were issues with newer versions holding up from 124gr Gold Dot +P, at 100 rnds a year.
And please explain why Kahr had to set up a temporary shop and rebuild all that were in service?

Its a nice slim semi auto, but obviously something wasn't right...as the saying goes. Caveat emptor - Buyer Beware.

While mine is a bit older I would love to see documented proof of problems...

I have shot well over 1000 rounds of +P through mine in a weekend handgun course without problems... I seriously doubt 100 rounds a year would be a problem.

I carry and routinely put 50 rounds of +P+ through mine every month...not a problem yet....

I will have to call BS on this one.

Folks, name the agencies which have had significant qualtities of Kahr K9 pistols in service; or any other Kahr pistols, for that matter. Lets arbitrarily define significant as 200 or more units, for argument's sake.

The NYPD is the only one I am aware of, and that is no longer the case. (But I'd be interested to know of others.) Because of reliabilty and disatisfaction with the support they received. Support which included an in-house armory service. If things cannot be made right with that...

However, to be fair things were not so dire as to cause the NYPD to mandate their removal from the field. Or maybe that had to do with Union concerns for trade-in and resale values. Hmmm.

But... If you decide that it is a good deal the standard Kahr triggers are among the best DAO triggers in the industry.

My K9 was built somewhere around late 1998 or early Jan 1999. Never a FTF and never a FTE. Absolutely fantastic!!
but..... buyer beware. I never said they were a POS. I said to find out the history of it.

All I'm doing is giving Ukraine Train a heads up. Could the particular K9 be a good one? Absolutely. Could it have been problematic and dumped? Yes!
You now have the information that they are no longer allowed to be purchased and carried. It is what it is. It's better question the seller and the history before you spend your money.

And as for Charles S calling BS. Thanks for the good laugh!

my NYPD Kahr

I don't know if this is an NYPD trigger issue or something else. I just purchased a black steel K9 (K9094C) which came with the NY trigger. Cleaned it and went to the range. I shot a box (100) of Winchester white box ball ammo, 16x rounds Speer 124gr +p GDHP and 16x rounds Corbon DPX. On about the third magazine of WWB the magazine popped loose on the second round. It had been firmly seated with the mag release button clicking into place - you could feel it and hear it. Re-seated the magazine and continued firing. On the first magazine of DPX the magazine popped loose again, this time on the first round. I reseated the magazine and attempted to cycle the slide and it would not move to the rear. Continued to play with it for a few minutes (it had fired and ejected the empty) and finally touched the trigger lightly while attempting to move the slide. When I did that it came to the rear easily. I continued shooting, took it home and cleaned it well. The slide will not move to the rear with no magazine in the pistol. The big problem is that if you load the K9 and remove the magazine you cannot cycle the slide to remove the shell from the chamber without lightly TOUCHING THE TRIGGER. Bad news.

I know the operator's manual says not to allow the striker to go forward without a magazine in the pistol as it may damage the striker block? I don't understand why they should design a pistol, without a magazine disconnect, when it could be damaged by firing without a magazine in it.

Again, I have no idea if this is related to the NY trigger or not. To be fair, Kahr, when advised of the problem this morning, sent me an RMA # immediately. So, I am going to give them the opportunity to make it right.

My other two pistols are both SIGs and this replaced a SIG 239. It also cost more than a SIG 239 (by a bunch). I have never had any problem with my SIGs (a 229 9mm and a 245) Again, to be fair to Kahr I really like the way this K9 feels, handles and the accuracy of it. It will outshoot either of my SIGs. Now I just need to be confident it functions correctly. It was intended to be a summer gun and backup to my 245.

I hope your issue gets resolved quickly, IkenI. Let us know what they tell you.

The guy with the K9 quit responding to my emails so I didn't get it. I ended up with a CW9, a couple holsters, and some spare magazines from a THR member, though. I'm taking it to shoot for the first time this Friday, but I love it already.

got it back from Kahr

Well, I got the K9 back from Kahr early this morning. All their note said was that they "replaced magazine catch, polished trigger bar, test fired OK". I took it to the range around noon and fired 101x rounds Winchester white box ball (an extra one in the box); 16x rounds Corbon DPX 115gr +P; 24x rounds Speer 124gr +P for a total of 141 rounds today. No malfunctions. All mags were full with one in the chamber except for the last odd numbered WWB rounds.

Interestingly enough the mags now dropped free where they did not before. Also it was not quite as accurate as before, but that was probably just me. All firing was done at 15 and 25 yards and generally shot the middle three to four inches out of the center of the bull with an occasional called flyer sneaking out to 5 or 6 inches.

If it continues to perform I am well pleased. I really like the DLC finish and K9 size.

I have one of the very early K9s and have never ever had a single issue with it.

I purchased a bunch of Hertenberger +P+ ammo when I first got the K9 and have shot it all up and now shoot +P all the time.
If there is a problem with K9s you couldn't prove it with mine!
Just my personal experience.
