I thought federal law says you can't label a shipping container with guns or ammuntion as such.

That's solely for checked baggage I believe.

I think the practical effect of this (since you have to be of age to purchase ammo and thus ID isn't an unusual request) is that factory ammo in factory boxes will now need California-only warning type label. I wonder if a sticker would suffice.

The idea is to impress the general public with the rationality, stability, and charm of gun owners. It's why many gun owners refer to the non-gun-owning public as "sheeple," to "congressmen" as "congresscritters," and the states like New Jersey as the "People's Republic of New Jersey." The sheeple, congresscritters, and PRNJ citizens eat it up and become our friends. Remember the old saying: "You catch more flies with vinegar than with honey."

I make a distinction between people and other animals. Some folks don't. One easy way to tell the difference is to stand outside a polling place on election day. Very few ducks register to vote for anti-gun candidates and measures, although it's in their best interest to do so. Congresscritters, sheeple, and other people who are treated as an inferior species or frightened by arrogant gun owners do vote anti-gun, and it's in their best interest to do so too. Ducks don't mind being insulted and have the ability to fly away when frightened. People vote and apply pressure to their legislators--or, as some gun-owners like to refer to them, the "congresscritters."

Get enough people angry and/or frightened and the result is an outcry against guns and gun owners. But gun owners are a highly principled and uncompromising group of people. They don't change. So then those gun owners complain about how badly they're treated, lament the loss of their rights, and sometimes move to other states where they start the process over again. Ducks, however, learn from the consequences of their foolish behaviors. Those that don't learn wind up on a plate with orange sauce. Gun owners blame congresscritters and sheeple, and don't even get orange sauce.
