From a Sporting Shooters Association of Australia e-mail Alert:

I've emailed. Perhaps you could do so as well? There is enough factual material in this e-mail or on the given website for you to become conversant with the situation.

Mods: This IS gun-related because kangaroos are taken commercially by professional roo shooters, working at night with spotlight and 4WD, using a .222 or .223 or .22-250 or very similar calibre. Animals have to be headshot to be accepted by the processors.

TIA.

Dear All

The kangaroo industry and indeed several other sustainable wildlife use
industries, need a few seconds of your time.

The USA State of California has a very old piece of legislation banning
the sale of kangaroo, crocodile or alligator meat or leather. It is the
only USA State with such a law and probably the only place in the
world. A bill to drop it from the statutes has been introduced by the
Cal. Senator Dennis Hollingsworth.

This of course has angered the vocal micro-minority who would have the
world become vegans and who refuse to understand the benefits of
wildlife utilisation for conservation. They have launched a lobby
campaign to oppose Senators Hollingsworth bill. He and other Cal.
Senators targeted need to know that there are a huge number of people
who support kangaroo and other wildlife use.

PLEASE email him and ask your colleagues to do the same.

Tell him:

• Kangaroos are super-abundant (56.8 million of them at the last survey in
2002)

• They are harvested humanely; the RSPCA are on record praising the
professionalism of kangaroo harvesters

• Kangaroo harvesting actively contributes to environmental sustainability
by helping control total grazing pressure in the fragile arid rangelands

• Australian scientists, conservationists and the general public
overwhelmingly support kangaroo harvesting

Please send your email supporting the bill to Senator Dennis
Hollingsworth
[email protected]

If you can please cc the email to the following list of Californian
Senators who are being lobbied by the 'vocal micro-minority' to oppose
the bill (you can do so simply by running your cursor over the entire
list and copying it into the Cc line on the email address box). It's
important they see just how 'micro' this group is.

Bruce, the way things are going over there this will be a moot problem shortly as no one in Ozzieland will have anything to shoot the 'roos or 'diles. No shooting, no skinning, no skins, no sales, no sales, no problem...

While this may indeed be the case; it certainly will be so if we do not make some effort at resisting all the politically-correct garbage being thrown at us:(

The use of 'roo meat is a very good utilisation of Australia's grasslands and the meat itself is pretty healthy compared to domestic animals.

If we can poke a stick into the eye of a 'peta'-type somewhere,
well, it's worth the effort, I reckon.:)

I'm not aware of this law or any sort of enforcement of it. I've purchased Joe Rocket kangaroo skin gloves here in CA and nobody uttered a peep. Held has no problems shipping their high end kangaroo skin gloves to CA, either.

Is this an equivalant to the Boston law that requires a flag man to precede every automobile? No enforcement = no impact.

No reason not to get it off the books, though.

you got that right, fallingblock (although I personally prefer the Martini.) I think peta should go down there and picket by the pools and rivers where the crocs hang out.

Back when my favorite shoe catalogue carried alligator shoes, a footnote explained that those shoes couldn't be shipped to the People's Republic of California.

Yeah, it's for real (the Cal state law). First time I noticed it was looking at leather goods at Cabela's.

That's it, Standing Wolf....

The Kangaroo Lobby in the PRC-

Really deep pockets....

light in the brain-power department...

prone to hopping toward bright lights....

An embryo in the fallopian tube, a joey in the pouch, and one at foot....capable of reproducing really fast when conditions are suitable:)

It must be affiliated with the Democrats... the kangaroo lobby, I mean...:scrutiny:

0007: We used to see Martinis thick as 'roos in these parts, but Americans have been buying them all at amazing prices lately.
A fine s.s. action, no doubt about it.:)
