Mother of four shoots man after break-in
The Kansas City Star

A mother of four shot a man in the head early today after she said he broke into her Kansas City home.

The man showed up at her home near 34th Street and Norton Avenue about 4 a.m. and banged on the door, police said. The woman refused to let him in, but he eventually broke through the door. The woman then shot him. Her children inside were not hurt.

Hospital staff told police they expected the man to survive. The bullet may have glanced off his head, police said.

Homicide Sgt. Keith Kirchhoff said the intruder was not a complete stranger to the woman. He said she "knew of him," but it was unclear what his intentions were this morning.

"We don't know the purpose," Kirchhoff said. "I could only guess."

"use more gun"????

how bout, hit center mass?
"the bullet glanced off his head"

Good job,btw. Cheers for her

Guess he wont be bothering her any more...

I'm not so sure. You or I would take the lesson and move on (actually I doubt we'd have been there in the first place) but this guy obviously has a problem. Now he has to prove that he still has power over this woman and he'll be lurking, just waiting for her to drop her guard.

Sometimes just having the attention of the wrong person can be bad. Even if she knew who he was but didn't know him may mean that she is on his radar. If he is looking for a target that isn't random he is going to start thinking of people that he knows or is aware of. It may not be her fault for drawing his attention but the outcome can be just as bad. I'm glad she shot the guy. It's too bad he lived. :(

From what I understand, if you don't hit in the eye socket area, or just above it, it is not uncommon for a bullet to go in just under the skin and follow the skull around, just under the skin without penetrating. Now a shot like that may put them down for a count, but not permanently.

I am talking about a 9mm, or 45 acp., and not a 44 mag. :p
