I've owned an IBM M1 carbine (all GI as far as I know) for more than 20 years. I've got magazines, pouches, ammo, bayonet, sling, oiler ... blah blah blah. I got if from my father and I don't know how he had it before I got it. No sentimental value though.

Fact of the matter, I don't use it. I've never even shot it. The only time I handle it is when I clean/oil it. It just sits in the safe. Cool, handy little gun but it doesn't inspire me to take it to the range.

I'm not a collecter so that doesn't sit well with me. I really don't have a use for it either. So I have a dilema. Do I hang onto it as an investment or do I swap it for something I want and would use? Anyone regret selling a gun they didn't ever use?

If it has no sentimental value to you, then why keep it? Firearms and other collectibles generally make lousy investments, anyway.

My father is a "collector." He delights in having rare firearms that he will admire and show off, but never, ever shoot.

That's not me. I buy stuff that I like to shoot. If I find after time that I'm just not interested in shooting it, anymore, I sell it and buy something I will shoot. It doesn't do me any good just sitting in the safe.

I've been thinning out my collection recently. No reason to keep a gun you don't really like or shoot. I'm actually looking for a decent M1 Carbine. I have lots of rifles and pistols, let me know what you're looking for and we might be able to work a trade.

"...make lousy investments..." Not true. Firearms, collector grade milsurp firearms, are a great investment. They generally increase in value by about 20% per year.

keep or trade my m1 carbine

if the gun has no centimental value, and you do not use it, then trade it for something you really want. all that stuff you have along with the gun should be worth quite a bit of money.

well if its all correct and in decent shape its worth a fair amount. I've seen all WW2 correct ones from 1500-7500 depend make quirks etc. granted I've never seen one sell for any of those prices either but, a little research on it couldn't hurt if you are selling it it or tradeing it.

Why don't you shoot it first? I used to look down my nose at S&W Model 10's, until I shot one. One time at the range with my Uncle's M10 and I was in love.

No more USGI M1 being produced, it's getting harder to find recievers and rifles. Whatever you get for it today, you will not be able to get it back for that amount tomorrow.

I don't miss firearms that I've never had, in the long run I've never regretted not selling or trading a firearm. There have been more than few I wish I hadn't let go.
