I keep seeing powder available here and there. I have not seen the same with primers. I don't want to turn this into a where to find mostly just want to know if (not second hand) anybody has found primers and actually ordered or purchased them locally at a normal or close to normal prices.

I have the opposite problem, bought 5k primers in the last 6 months not a single can of powder to be found. Academy, bps, and sportsmans have all gotten in 30k or so shipments. I bought 1k large rifle for my 308 on Saturday for 42 dollars at sportsmans. Cci LRP

Primers right now are scarce with most new production domestic primers going to the manufacture of loaded ammunition. Even from most reputable retailers the prices are hitting $50 to $60 per thousand. Powder is a catch as catch can but it is showing up and when it hits a shelf or online it's gone within hours. Locally no, not in the Cleveland, Ohio area have I seen any primers for sale at a reasonable price. AJC1 above hit on a real good price for these times.

I purchased 26 pounds of powder this month 10 from powder valley and 16 at a local gun shop. Local shop luckily got a shipment in the day I went there, I asked employee said last shipment was 3 months ago, but has not seen primers in over a year.

Powder is becoming commonly available, but primers are still scarce if you're looking for a specific brand.

As announced on their YouTube video, just about all Federal SPP are going into loaded ammo. I spoke with employees of a couple of large retailers and the only SPP they can get are CCI. They are selling them at $80-$95/k...which is the new normal. We have a local FFL who is building a group buy for 2,000,000 Federal SPP at $40/k with minimum orders of 50k primers...cash up front and delivery in 6-9 months

You’re right, powder is easier to come by.

For 3 months, 13 straight weeks, I ventured 70 miles each way, each week in search of primers. In those 13 trips, I landed 5k SRPs, 2k SPPs and a bonus 1,000 209s.

So even in the darkest of times, they were available. My issue was the gamble of which of the 3 “Big Box” stores to hit at the opening bell. At least once, by the time I got to the 2nd or 3rd store, they were out 15 minutes before I got there.

I’m in a good place now so I haven’t made that trek for several weeks. But Thursday I have to go pick up a load of lumber, so I’ll be at the door of one of those stores when they open.

I have picked up about 10k of primers in the last 2 months some from box stores for about 50$ per 1k online orders have been about 80-90$ per 1k because of shipping and limits. The speed less than a few min in witch primers sell out online has caused me to do some digging and talking to IT buddy's of mine, there are people out there with bots that are searching and probably buying them automatically. The few stores getting them online are probably just getting over runs I think in small quantity.

I picked up 10K Federal SPP for $385 shipped to my door.
"Notify Me..." emails are useless when they sell out in minutes. I got lucky while checking websites, was able to add them to my cart and checkout before they sold out.
That's the name of the game with online primer sales.
Powder, I recently bought 2 lbs locally and 4 lbs online. Powder is out there and seems to be staying in-stock longer that a few months ago.
Until this shortage happened, I always bought locally for all my primers and powder.

Just some fuzzy math I just did. But I think the powder is more available because a lb of powder will outlast 1k primers. Titegroup for instance is used in alot of 9mm loads. So 1lb of titegroup will outpace 1k primers. 7000 grn of powder roughly in a lb of powder, 4.0 grn throw of Titegroup will load 1750 rds of 9mm. The run rate of powder is longer than primers.

Watch the video. The guys making the primers domestically have been telling us where most of the primers are going. This is not the first time and it won't be the last time we experience something like this.
