Keeping it old school

Nothing wrong with classic wood and blued steel. I have a few traditional rifles and all but 1 shotgun is still blued steel and wood. I have about a 50/50 mixture when it comes to handguns.

One thing to remember though. There are original AR15 and M16 rifles that are now 50+ years old and are classified as Curios and Relics. Any AR15 or M16 variant made before 1972 is a C&R. The fact that I carried the M16A1 and M16A2 makes me feel old at times. And no we didn't have any electronic sights/optics issued to us. The only exception was on a rare occasion of getting issued a night vision scope. We were still using the old AN/PVS 2 and AN/PVS 4 scopes when I got out in 1996

Even though there is rarely any wood on them, AR's have been around now for almost 60 years. Not sure exactly where "old school" starts; I'd like to think it's sometime around that period at least, since I'm going on 68 myself and definitely consider myself old school. At any rate, I only have two polymer pistols, out of 21 that I own. Two AR's and the rest of my 11 long guns have wooden stocks. Two of them got a good workout yesterday, out to 700 yards.

With all the polymer hand guns and black rifles who else prefers the old school styles?

My Mini 14 and all steel CZs
Let's see the steel and hardwood that you got..View attachment 1064690

Totally with you on that. My only plastic gun is my Shield and it has its place as such... But overall I have always preferred steel over plastic in most cases. I had a Kel-Tec p11 for a while but sold it and would never buy another. Every other firearm I've ever owned has been steel.

I have considered getting a full size m&p or maybe a PX4. Glocks have never attracted me at all, although I was about 16 when they hit the market

I have one firearm with a stainless steel action and frame coupled with an 'over molded' stock. And it's possibly the newest firearm I own. A Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan (caliber .375 Ruger). I got it as a bargain (new in box from a trusted gun store at a cheap price). The next youngest is a CZ bolt gun with very nice wood stock in 7.62x39mm.
The bulk of my rifles were made during and shortly after WW1. All my rifles are bolt guns except for an M1 Carbine I have as a house gun and an old Stevens .22 lr.
The latest made handgun I own is a S&W 581 (first run) purchased in 1980 or so.

Do I qualify?

Now that's one mighty fine looking M1!
Why thank you, sir. My Grandpa left it to me in his Will. I was told it was a WWII Veteran's Parade rifle, hence the chrome. My Grandpa was the man that got me hooked on firearms when I was a kid. You could tell who he liked best based off what gun you got. I think he liked me pretty good :D

Edit: My mother got the best gun. One of my cousins got a rusted Sears single shot with a broken stock. He had a great sense of humor.
