Then you have never seen these guns before :
Do they use the hex screws to hold two opposing sides of the frame together? That is what it looks like to me. That is why I say it's a no-go for me. It has nothing to do with looks.
As far as the FNs or whatever they are, they are cool I guess for some people, just not me.

Pmr30

It seems like it'll attract a decent following. Although I wouldn't necessarily pick it as a first choice for defensive carry, I wouldn't have a problem carrying it while backpacking. I don't think the 22WMR is going to be able to reach velocity out of any pistol bbl, it should still move as well as any Hyper Velocity 22LR and pushes the heavier 40gr bullet. The Polymer frame, High Visibility Fiber Optics and large magazine capacity are especially appealing for use as a field companion. I don't have a personal problem with the hex screws either, so long as they serve to assist in a user level field strip. ;)

My biggest question is how was th reliability of Kelgren's last 22WMR, the Grendel P30. If it had a good track record and the cost is under $400, I'll play "Guinea Pig" for the welfare of the group and buy a first run gun. :D

But what is it good for?

Is this a range plinker or is it being marketed as a defensive weapon? I doubt that it would be accurate enough for a truly fun range plinker and it certainly isn't something I am going to carry as a defensive piece. I suppose it could be fun if you are into spray and pray but it doesn't trip my trigger.

I've always wanted a Grendel P30 - I think I'll definitely be getting one of these - nice! :) :)

If this thing is reliable, it would make one heck of a handy defensive weapon. How long could you keep fighting with one of these, 3 mags, and a little cover?

Not only that, it's truly not a terrible defensive handgun for the recoil sensitive. Even for the well-trained, you could probably get off 4-5 shots in the time in takes you to get off 2 shots with say, a 9mm handgun, just due to the extremely low recoil. 3-4 anyway. That's a lot of damage to the attacker, albeit limited on penetration.

A buddy had a used P30 for awhile. It was a hoot to shoot. It was a pain to reload the mags. He would have kept it, but somebody offered him a stupid amount of money for it.

This gun would rule as a plinker IF and I do mean IF it were blowback only and in .22LR. Mainly because it would be much, much cheaper as a blowback .22LR. Because it's .22 WMR, I have doubts about it as anything other than a gun with a limited following because of it's chambering.

Note to anyone from Kel Tec if they are reading this. Take my advice. Offer it for around $200 MSRP as a blowback .22 LR and you will rule the .22 plinker world. (and I will buy 3 of them).

That would be the ultimate walkin through the woods gun. I wouldn't carry if for defense, except maybe agianst squirrels...

The rail makes it a no go for me.
I hate those rails - on any pistol short of a competition or entry pistol. Personal use precludes me even liking rails.
How are you going to get a reliable scope/red dot mount on that ***plastic***:scrutiny:
Had a AMT and loved it after I got the mag problem worked out.
I'd get this pistol if the price was right, but the rails need a cover for any holster I'd use.

My first thought was that the Grendel P30 was being resurrected. My thoughts after seeing it were that it WAS just that.

Hoping that these are a bit more reliable than the originals.

The .22 WMR, out of a 4" barrel still equals the .22 out of a carbine. The hyper-velocity loadings of the .22 WMR might have found a home here.

It's so ugly that it's cute. What the heck, 30 rounds of anything in a pistol will generate enough noise to alert entire counties that something is happening. :)

Um, solution in search of a problem, in my opinion. If I can carry 20 rounds of 9mm or 15 rounds of 45ACP in a pistol that size, why would I carry .22 for defense.

Seems like it will be relegated to "range curiosity" status, which doesn't mean that it won't sell.

I am not sure if it is innovation to repackage the Grendal P-30, they look very similar to me. We sold a few P-30's years back and they were borderline horrible.

I hope the bugs have been removed and this attempt works though. I think it would be a fun gun for desert hiking and plinking. I agree that I would rather have my Glock 17 with 19 rounds of 9mm than 30 of .22Mag.

I am glad we have so many choice these days though...kudos to Grendal or Kel-Tec on this one!

Useful? Probably not really, but if KelTec decides to market a carbine that takes the same mags...

i will definitely be buying one. would be a fun plinker or good woods gun. also, .22mag is not that wimpy. probably no worse than 380 for self defense.

for those guys who think size of a round is everything... would you like to be shot by a .223? ;)

looks like a nice little pistol, the only real drawback i can see is who will be able to shoot the thing much with the cost of 22 mag shells!?! i own a 22 mag rifle, and as much as i love to shoot it, the cost of shooting it keeps it in the back 1/2 of the gun safe. if i am going to plink, i can shoot 5 boxes of 22lr to one 22 mag. that is a lot of difference! if i am going to hunt, why would i need 30 rounds? heck, i can reload 50 rounds of 223 for just about the same cost of a box of 22 mag shells!

Muzzle velocity looks kinda thin.

Snake oil, sez I.
I carry a NAA Mini in .22 Mag all the time. Velocity and damage even from it is impressive.

I like it. I don't think it is ugly either. Kind of "mechanized" looking.

A poor mans FiveSeven. ;)

Going on my "really looks interesting, gotta check into" list. :)

I have read de-classified military reports of snipers using 22-17 rounds at substantial distances. The .17cal projectile can be absolutely deadly (details forgone).
As with any caliber, placement is critical; skill under pressure often trumps jacket diameter. Comments? Q2
