The Kel-Tec P32 I just purchased is DAO trigger mechanism. I assume that the long trigger pull is in fact a kind of safety. I do not read remember reading in the literature if this model is safe to carry a live round in the chamber? Great lightweight weight carry pistol

Yes it is completely safe to carry with a live round chambered. If carried in a pocket it is better to use a holster vs. just dropping it into the pocket.

I've owned and carried my 1st gen Kel-Tec P-32 for the last seven years.
Always had one in the chamber and never had a problem with it.
It mostly carried in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.

Yes. All keltec pistols have very long and heavy trigger pulls, that is the safety. Always carry it in a holster. I too use the and recommend the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster, very effective and inexpensive.

A holster which makes it impossible to manipulate the trigger, and a long trigger pull are the safeties on that style of pistol. There's a nice animation of the internal workings HERE, by the way. Pretty nifty if you haven't seen it, and it shows the disconnector working.
There is no reason not to carry with one in the pipe, and a number of reasons to do so.

A CC pistol (and this advice is worth only 22% what you paid for it) should be fully loaded up with carry ammo, and holstered. There is no need to remove it from the holster until you decide to clean it or fire it. If you still don't have a warm fuzzy about carrying with a round in the chamber:
  1. Make sure the gun is unloaded
  2. Check again to make sure the gun is unloaded
  3. Get someone to agree with you that the gun is unloaded
  4. Get an empty mag and load a snap-cap (and ONLY a snap-cap) into it
  5. Watch the snap-cap (which should be obviously not a real round) as you load it into the chamber (your friend from step#3 can also watch)
  6. Now that you have a unloaded gun with nothing in it but a snap-cap, insert it into the holster immediately
  7. Attempt to manipulate the trigger through the holster, try really hard to get the pistol to drop the hammer
  8. If you manage to manipulate the trigger with any reasonable attempt, you need a better holster
Assuming you don't manage to drop the hammer, load the pistol up, holster it, and go on with your day.
