Im not sure what the corresponding Kahr model would be but for those fo you who have played with these two guns what are your impressions? Im looking for one of them to use in a Smartcarry when its shorts weather.

I carry Kahr PM9 in pocket holster. Haven't shot the KelTec PF9, so can't speak for it.
My Kahr has been reliable right out of the box. I put another 100 rounds through it today actually. 0 flaws so far, with 300 rounds through the gun total.
Not comfortable to shoot without the grip extension but not too bad either.
With the extended mag and better grip it's a poetry!

like Dan-O, I have both, a PF9 and a PM9.
Although the PF9 works, it's not in the same class as the PM9.
To put it simply, the PM9 is superior in every respect!

I had p9 and returned to get the pm9 with trijicon sites and DTC coating. I did a good bit of research on Kahr before buying it. And everything I read holds true...a few FTF when cycling. It seems to be peculiar about that first round. But a firm thumping always slams the action and loads the bullet. I have had a jam or two in it. All in all not a bad gun, not as reliable as a H&K, but smaller, slimmer and once loaded properly it's right on.

And, it recoils a bit compared to full size guns, but then again i didn't buy it to go target practicing.

Dan-O;

Why is that? Is the Kahr more reliable, smoother, better feel, or ?

Thanks,

-John

I liked my PM9 so much I spent $800 for a Kahr Mk9 03 Elite with NS.I also have a few dozen revolvers(all very nice pre-lock).I can shoot the PM9 better than any J frame and the Mk9 as good as any K or L snubby. Zero malfunctions in both so far. :D

apples and oranges

no comparison in the kahr pm9 and the kt pf9. One is of superior quality through out and certainly more money to. But if you want top quality and a gun that is even smaller than the pf9 and weight 1.3 ounces more then the PM9 is ur gun. My PM9 has 11,200 flawless rounds through it. I shoot it like I stole it. never one issue since out of the box, shows zero signs of wear anywhere. Superior match grade barrel, super trigger system, all stainless, striker fired. Just so much more quality than the pf9, it isn't funny. Nite sites avaialable from practically all the top sight companies. The Pf9 has had so many issues since introduction, that most haveosin it. they seem to be getting better. The entire kahr line is probably the finest ccw line of handgun ever to hit the market, and I am very sure their new P380 when it comes out in June will be another winner. Again priceyk, but again top quality all the way.

I loved my PM9 so much I waited 7 months to get it in to cylinder and slide for some custom work. They are the "guru"s of the kahr custom work. The only company recommended by kahr even to to this type of work. I have more int he custom work than I did in the gun but oh my what a dream gun, 360 degree stippled grip and trigger guard, xs 24/7 tritium big dot nite sites, complte action job, 5# striker spring, slide lock modified and countoured. Shoots like a dream and what a fightin gun it is now.

John, you want to know what's better about the PM9!

The PM9 is significantly more accurate, has much less felt recoil, has a far better trigger, has way better fit and finish, is available with stainless slide (mine is blackened stainless and came with true glow night sights) and just oozes quaility when compared to the PF9.

Since you mention it, what IS "blackened stainless"? I mean, blackened how?

I'm looking hard at the Kahr PM9 to replace my Keltec P11 and Keltec 3PaT as a unified carry answer. If not that, at least as a hot weather carry supplement to a Glock 19 holstered.

Nothing against the PF9. It has a niche market. I can spend a little more on guns, and would choose to do so anyways for a personal defense weapon.

Like others have said, the trigger is sweeter on the PM9. Recoil is less. The gun is wider, but not as long. I think overall it conceals better. Like Jocko said, he has an insane number of rounds through his, and it keeps ticking. I know that they had some reliability issues when they were first introduced. They are way beyond that now.

Spend the extra couple hundred bucks and go with the Kahr, you will not be disappointed.

I thought I might be interested in a PM9 until I handled a couple this past weekend. The first one I picked up, you could feel the machining marks as you racked the slide & it would not return on it's own. I assumed it was something to do with that gun, so I had the counter man hand me another.
It was just as bad. I've had a few KT's & I expect to have to go over them with some emery cloth to clean them up. That's part of why they sell for such a low price, you're not paying someone to do this for you. Kahr is on the opposite end of the cost scale & the machine work/finish on the two I looked at were what I'd expect to see on a under $300 gun, not on a gun costing more than twice that. YMMV

The tolerances and fit on Kahr pistols is so tight that they need a 200 round break in before they smooth up and that is probably what you felt when you said, "you could feel the machining marks as you racked the slide & it would not return on it's own".

I have owned a lot of pistols and none were as tight as my PM9 when it was new and as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.

Kokapelli, could you post some pics of your kahr, I'm interested in seeing how it looks with the blackened slide, they only have like one pic on their website.

The slide on my Kahr CW is designed to not return with an empty mag. In order to use the slide release you have to drop the mag or reload with a full mag. This was probably the case with the gun you handled at the shop and not a malfunction.

How about some love for the Kahr CW9, the "budget" version of the PM9? I have one and really like it. Very very reliable after the 200 round break in period. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS that come with it (I'll fess up, I did not right away and had a few problems getting hollowpoints to load correctly. I read the instructions and not one problem since then). The CW9 is something like $100 or $200 less than the nicer Kahr 9s, slightly less refined machining but still totally adequate, the slide release is MIM instead of machined, and it only comes with one magazine instead of two. But still a darned decent little pistol. I like it because it's thin, small, and light enough for invisible pocket holster carry.

The CW9 is a good pistol for the money. It is a little larger than the PM9 and in addition to what's stated above, it does not have the Polygonal barrel and has a plastic front sight, but for what it costs, it's fine and reliable pistol.
