My buddy just bought a Kel-Tec PLR-16 pistol and one of the accessories is a 6 o'clock rail to mount what ever. If a pistol grip is installed would this make the firearm illegal?
Thanks

Since the gun was sold as a pistol and has a pistol barrel length as long as you don't add a shoulder stock which would make it a short rifle you would be legal.

Incorrect. Currently, the definition of a pistol is a gun with ONE pistol grip perpendicular to the bore. Adding a forward grip brings it under the NFA definition of "Any Other Weapon", the manufacturing of which requires a $200 tax stamp.

AOWs are a $5 to TRANSER. Adding a forward pistol grip is manufacturing an AOW, which is a $200 stamp.

That said, you may have noticed that the front of the magwell is sufficient for a pretty decent grip. A strap hanging down, essentially causing the gun to rest on your fist, would also be okay. It would be pushing things, but if you could make a magazine holder that attached to the rail, you could probably even carry a spare mag vertically from the foregrip.

If it has finger grooves of any kind, it's a vertical grip, even if it does hold an extra mag. Better to err on the side of caution.

A rail-mounted tac-light though!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

As long as it don't have a "shoulder thing that goes up", or down!
