I got an email from KT about this on New Year's. The recent $100 rebate on Gen 2 Subs had some people speculating that KT was blowing them out to make room for a new model... that is indeed the case.

The big change is that this generation is optic ready. The barrel rotates over when you unfold it, so you can keep a scope or dot mounted on it. There are no iron sights. Difficulty mounting optics was one of the big complaints about the Subs, and it seems like they solved it in a pretty elegant way.

Other than that, KT made a few quality-of-life changes. The bolt handle is a little larger and easier to manipulate. I'm hoping they added a few ounces of weight to it to buffer the recoil, but that isn't stated. The bolt-hold is now ambidextrous... that's just adding an extra aluminum cut to the buffer tube. And they claims they lightened the trigger pull to 5 lbs.

MSRP is $500, plus sights of some kind.

I agree the a 180 would have been better, but I do think this will keep the Sub2K competitive with some of the other carbines out there.

It also looks like the sights are gone. I think this is another negative. They should have kept/added some type of simple sighting system.

Here is the promo video from Kel-tec:

While there are fixes, this has been the biggest complaint about the Sub. Glad to see they are listening to feedback and innovating with new products. Will wait and see a few reviews of the new system to see how it holds up before considering a purchase.

Festooning this thing with red dots, VFGs, lasers, and lights defeats the purpose- but apparently most folks want a plastic folding AR9, rather than a KISS, cheap, lightweight SHTF/camping carbine- so this is what we get.

Adding a pair of MBUS to this bumps the price to $550+ also now getting into AR9 territory.
On the other hand, the original iron sights were so bad, slapping on a pair of Magpuls would probably make for a better overall package and not be super bulky when the gun is folded.

The rotating Red-dot sight base from Midwest Industries resolved the sight issue for me on the Gen2 version. Add in that the Sig mag catch is the same height as the CZ75 series of pistols and presto ... 22-rounds in the grip and two 16-rounders up front in Fobus mag carriers, bolted to the forend. Still folds! The MW base holds its zero too!

This along with M*Carbo metal pieces, upgraded irons that one can actually use and this looks exactly like my setup
