Kel-Tec Sub 2000

I just bought a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 9mm gun yesterday. I have not used it yet, but i want to try it out today. I was wondering if anyone knows if i can upgrade the clip to 33 rds. Will it fit in perfectly with out any modifications? If you guys can help me find a website that sells the magazines I would greatly appreciate it. Also if anyone has one, what do you think about it? Is it a good gun for $300 bones? Thanks for the Help.

If it's the model built to use Glock mags, you're good to go. Just buy 'em and slap 'em in there. The other models use S&W, Beretta, or Sig magazines, and finding 30 rounders for them that actually work is a little tougher, but its the magazines that need modifying, not the gun.
As for the little SUB, I love mine, it rides in the car all the time now. It adds a degree of precision over the handgun, head shots out to 25-50 yards require a whole lot less effort than with a pistol. I can't remember what I paid for mine, and gun prices vary greatly across the country, but I don't think 300 is unreasonable.
Also, check out the guys over at KTOG.org there's alot of information about technical stuff, accessories and the like. Their bulletin board has a dedicated section to the SUB carbines. And by the way, welcome to this board, glad to have you!!

I just got my Sub 2000 on Friday, mine is in the Glock 19 configuration. First thing you will have to do is determine which configuration yours is, as they sell multiple versions just as Dcloudy pointed out. As far as "upgrading a clip" well there aren't any "clips" just magazines and you will have to buy new magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. If you have the Glock configuration than you will be able to get 31-33 (depending on wether they have extended +2 floorplates or not) round Glock 18 magazines From somewhere like Top Glock for around $25-$30, they will fit without any modification. But, if you have the Beretta, Sig, or S&W configuration than you will have find magazines for the specific setup.

As far as the usefullness of a sub 2000 I am under the impression that they are very effective weapons out to about 100 yards. Mine proved to be accurate and had no malfunctions when I took it out on Sunday. It also had very little recoil and was considerably more quiet than any high powered rifle that I have fired. I also think that they are a little more durable than people give them credit for, the only weakness I have noticed is the potential to bust off the front sight assembly. They are definately good guns for the money if you realize their limitations.

Thanks for the help....just one more question....How do you know if the sub 2K is a glock, s&w, etc.. When i bought the gun I did not recieve any booklets.

Did it come with a magazine? Mine came with a Glock factory 10 rounder so I would inspect the magazine if you have one. The Glock grip is going to have a larger magwell than the others but if you have nothing to compare it to that doesn't help much. If all else fails I guess you could try to take it to a gun store and try to see which magazines fit. Check Kel-Tec if you need to verify any manufacturing info. Good luck.

The name on the clip says MEC-GAR and the number on it says MG-B92-9MM.

Based on the name MG-B92-9MM I would translate it as

MG - Mec Gar
B92 - Beretta 92
9mm -

10 and 15 round mags of this type are extremely common. 30 round capacity models are also available.

Yes, that's the Mec-Gar model number for a Beretta mag (just looked it up). Those mags are cheap and abundant, in multiple capacity options. Also, the magazine catch can be changed out to accept the S&W or SIG mags if you happen to already have some, I think it's about an $8 part frm Kel-Tec. Man, you've go a great excuse to go out and buy a Beretta 92 now!

I really want to buy the Glock 9mm 33 rd clip. On a website they say that the sub 2k will accept this clips. What do you think?

Not wth your setup. The sub 2k comes in 2 flavors, one that takes Glock mags and one that takes ... others. I thought it was S&W but perhaps it's Beretta based on the part # that you posted.

BTW, I took mine out yesterday. I'm thinking the little bugger doesn't like the nickle-plated Speer Gold Dot ammo. Fails to eject the spent casing 1/10 times.. but I have no trouble thus far with brassed cased stuff. Perhaps the nickle is just a bit too "slick" for it.

I went to Cheaper Than Dirt this morning and checked out the Sub 2000. Pretty neat little gun. They didn't have a Glock mag configured one or I'd have probably walked out with it. I think I'll be picking one up at the next gunshow.

Like Gigabuist said yours CANNOT accept GLOCK MAGAZINES. It DOES accept BERETTA 92 MAGAZINES.


Like the Kel-Tec website says....

The SUB-2000 is available in the following versions only:
9mm: Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W 59, Beretta 92, SIG 226
.40 Cal: Glock 22, S&W 4006, Beretta 96, SIG 226

The Beretta, S&W, and SIG versions can be converted into working with each others magazines BUT they CANNOT be converted to take Glock magazines as the magwells in the Glock versions are significantly different than the other models.
