I am thinking of buying a Sub 2000. It comes in 9mm or .40S&W but I am not sold on it yet. I like the idea of the folding front but I've never really heard anything about them. I currently reload .40S&W so I am leaning towards that one, however 9mm reloading dies are pretty cheap as well. If I get it, my plan is to take the gun and modify the front end, see pictures below. Also, see Kel-Tec's site for more info on it.

1) Any of you own/shoot one?
2) What do you think of it?
3) 9mm or .40S&W? I know the glocks have available high cap mags.
If 9mm, Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W 59, Beretta 92, SIG 226?
If .40S&W, Glock 22, S&W 4006, Beretta 96, SIG 226?

Edit: I do not on a Glock, S&W, Bretta, or a 226 (229 and 239 but those don't count)

Take this:

And modify the front end with this:

1. Yes
2. Think it's the bee's knees. Increases my accurate range considerably. Will make one face-sized hole offhand at 50 yards as fast as I can get shots off.
3. 9mm, because i have a matching pistol. The Sub2K really makes sense if you have a pistol (or plan to buy one) that takes the same mags, that way it's a twofer. Buy the mag type accordingly.

Search the forum, there are tons of Sub owners/info. Also check this site out.

1) Yes.
2) Great combo. I have the Glock 17 compatible KT Sub2000. It's fun to shoot, easy to fold up for storage and reasonably accurate.
3) 9mm is certainly cheaper to shoot and Glock makes a 31 round magazine in 9mm. If you buy the Sub2000 first in any model it gives you a good excuse to buy a companion Glock, Beretta ot SIG. Now, how can that be a bad thing?

You have a 229. They take 226 mags. If you get a 226 version you will be able to swap mags and ammo with your handgun. I plan on getting one to pair with my 229 soon. $300 isn't very much for one either. Do a search here and on the Kel Tec forum and you will find plenty of people that love them.

I had one, was 9mm with the Glock mags. It came with a 10 rounder and I bought a 33 round mag. What a hoot, loved that gun. Had to sell it to help finance the purchase of another/different gun. Was surprisingly accurate. First time clean/disassembly was a little bit of a head-scratcher but a piece of cake once you've done it once.
Great gun...buy it !

1) Yes.
2) I like it very much. Decent accuracy, light and reliable.
3) Mine is 9mm but that's because I bought it before the 40s came out. It's built on the Glock 17 (no I don't own the pistol) and all Glock mags work flawlessly. (Unlike other after market ones.)

My wife and daughter each bought one a couple of months ago--both 9mm for Glock mags. Some initial short recoil/failures to feed but it was just a matter of break-in. Now have 100 rds plus through the wife's and it has ironed out okay. Will probably order a couple of 32 round Glock mags for it now.

The front sight is a challenge to adjust but once you figure out what it wants all will be well. Trigger pull is a bit heavy but smooth and probably better than a SIG or Glock. Very good plinking accuracy.

Cheaper Than Dirt sells a large cloth handgun carry case that happens to fit the gun perfectly when folded--about $10. Got two of these. Kel-Tec also sells a nice little carry sling setup which is quite useful, and that is also cheap, about $12 with hardware.

I view it as a modern-day semiauto Sten gun; cheap, clever, and it works.

Good little SHTF piece, too, particularly for the price.

Just bought one today but haven't hit the range with it yet. The folding ability and potential for using high-cap Glock mags attracted me to it above other pistol caliber carbines. Seems handy to have a compact carbine which can use the same mags as my handgun.

Not trying to hijack, but as far as high cap mags go, does anyone have a preference between Glock's G18 31 rd mag and the Scherer 33 rd mag for use in the Sub2000?

It's fun, extremely accurate, useful as a SHTF or hiking gun since you can put it in the bottom of any pack, and I'd get one now before any new laws ban them as "too dangerous".

I had one. they have their plusses and minuses. don't get one if you are left handed, as I. Your right cheekbone will be the shell deflector. also forget a good cheekweld, that steel pipe will let you know. I superglued a piece of foam a.c. tubing to it. Also very dirty, very. Last but not least, which ever mags work the best the longest, i suspect Glock, get that one. Lastly , that front site, should be arrested for impersonating a front site.

Same here. It takes 33 round glock mags and it folds. Tough to beat for just fun if nothing else.

Well got to the range today to try out the Sub. Put ~120 rounds through it (all I had on hand) without any hiccups. While the range I shot at is a short indoor range, the Sub grouped well although the groups were all left and I didn't have anything to adjust the front sight with. Anyway, so far I am very pleased with the performance of the Sub2000 and find it neat/funny that I can fit it in my range bag. I think I will be looking for some of the Glock G18 magazines possibly from TopGlock or Natchez.

I would have probably had 1 already - but I found out that U can't use the stock sight very well with earmuff hearing protection. Too bad the sights aren't taller.

I really like my Sub. Bought it in .40 as a companion gun to my Glock and after shooting it a bit I added a stock extension cause I have crazy long arms, a verticle fore grip that really helps with rapid fire controlability, and a check guard. My sight tool is a shinny copper penny and I love the thing. Only makes sence to get one in a caliber you already have.

I keep hearing about the metal tube beating you about the face if you try to get a cheek weld on the SUB 2000....?

The first time I took mine out to shoot I was all prepared to get pummeled and flinch a lot.

Okay, so I flinched on the first shot.

Then, as my neice would say, "I was all like, huh? Was that it?"

I must've gotten a cull or something, because believe me - there is NO appreciable recoil with it. I can snuggle right up to it and pull the trigger on that 33 round Glock mag until it's done. And this is coming from a guy who likes to put Limbsaver slip-on pads on anything that talks back.

I don't get it.....? The freakin' SUB 2000 is a pussycat in 9mm. Seriously.

:scrutiny:

In 9mm it might be a pussy cat but on a cold day a .40 without the guard from Blue Force Gear will feel like youve had your cheek pinched by aunt Mod for a week straight.

It isn't really that the steel tube will beat you, it's that without the tube guard, it's COLD against your face!

Definitely didn't need any kind of fore grip. Thing is easy enough to keep on target one-handed, even.

My buddy just got a used one for $220 from Whittakers. His is 9mm and uses the S&W 59 series mags. Recoil is a bit more than I expected, but nothing outrageous. Having trouble ejecting the brass....but think it was because of the brand of ammo. The ammo was from a local indoor range. I think it was reloads, as the brass didn't look to great once I started looking at it. I think I'm gonna get one soon. I had heard somebody call it the poor man's MP5. I think it's a pretty good name for it.

Okay, I went and looked at the Blue Force Gear tube guard.

Damn.

Another neat accessory I have to have.

You guys... it's all a conspiracy around here to keep me broke. I know it is.

I'll never be able to afford to retire. :banghead:

But in the meantime, I sure have fun playing with my toys on the weekends.

Not trying to hijack, but as far as high cap mags go, does anyone have a preference between Glock's G18 31 rd mag and the Scherer 33 rd mag for use in the Sub2000?

The Scherer mags are entirely plastic. Glock at least puts metal in for the feed lips which seems much more robust to me. I've noticed some shavings on my Scherer mags. I'm not exactly happy with them.

Cheaper Than Dirt sells a large cloth handgun carry case that happens to fit the gun perfectly when folded--about $10.

While not as cheap I like using an old Dell laptop bag for mine. Great when you're traveling and just want to look some some random business guy from out of town. :)

I keep hearing about the metal tube beating you about the face if you try to get a cheek weld on the SUB 2000....?

The slight upward jump of the carbine during recoil will tenderize my cheek if I put 100-200 rounds through it in a short session. It's not painful, but I can feel the tenderness the next day.

I don't like the front sight at all. I actually broke mine while trying to adjust it. I replaced it with the (discontinued) AR-15 style front sight housing from Blue Force Gear and dropped a tritium post in there. Kinda spiffy!
