So i just recently picked up a keltec pf9 with hard chrome slide and grey frame. Cleaned and lubed it with One Shot soon after i got it and finally took it to the range last night. First mag or two ran well and then i hit a speed bump. The gun jammed. Looking in the breech, the empty casing was about halfway out of the chamber and the top round in the mag was partially moved forward to feed. Cleared the jam by locking the slide back, reseating the live round in the mag, then dropped the mag. Released the slide and racked it ejecting the spent casing. This situation repeated it self several times through the first box. By the second box i was getting less instances of this, and only had one happen during the third box. The ammo was 115 grain herter's select grade brass case. Just trying to find out if this is likely a break in issue or something to worry about. Did try a few rounds of winchester white box as well. Did the same thing.

Heh, glad I'm not the only one. From my experience, the PF9 work best with short OAL cartridges. Mine works flawlessly with HP's, but is pretty finicky with FMJ. I think it's the short cycle.

Is this a new or used gun? Hosing it down with some spray isn't really cleaning. You may well have caused the/a problem right there.

It is a new gun. I did tighten the extractor screw but it only needed about a quarter of a turn to tighten. And i didn't try overtightening it as i assumed that would be a bad idea. Tightening it seemed to have little or no effect. As for cleaning, i did a little more than just hose it down. Will try cleaning under the extractor after work today

Read that Keltec forum. I did the fluff and buff: polished the barrel and feed ramp and added a second extractor spring. Runs %100 now with any ammo.

And now you know why kel tecs are cheap. Basically they leave final finishing to the end user. It seems to be a business model that works for them. However, people should be aware that there is a good chance they will need to do work that other manufactures do themselves. Before someone asks, yes I own kel tecs.

Glad you got it sorted.

No WWW ammo and NO 115gr to start off with. Start again by useing some 124gr fmj ammo like magtech or even rem bulk for the first couple hundred rounds. By then the 115gr will run well. With some of these small lite weight pistols and heavier recoil springs they tend to be picky about ammo and the shooter holding on to it well enough. If grip is still a problem Get a old used 1.75" bike inner tube ,free at bike shops 4.50 at walmart. Cut a few pieces to add some width and the soft rubber is easy to hold on too. Read the fluff and buff at KTOG also.

hardluck, you are exactly right.

My pf9 will not shoot the expensive Hornady Critical Defense load because they are to weak.

It shoots my reloads just fine at just under midrange to max loads at todays standards.

My PF9 is well over 1K rounds and new recoil springs. As long as I hold it tight, it ticks right along.
That's my qualm--not the pistol itself, but that I believe I need constant practice with it to ensure I don't relax my grip and possibly induce a stoppage.

New recoil spring in these lite weight pistols tend to bring back the small problems we find when new. One reason I question I try not to use 115gr bullets .

I try to shoot atleast once a month right now. Ever 2 weeks when I can get to a range. I do shoot several firearms but allways finish with my CC and shoot 30 to 50 rounds of FMJ ammo then the 2 mags of CC HP ammo.

tightgroup I ran some of Hornadys CD in a pf-9 I had a few years back and it ran good after 200 rounds of recoil spring break in but ended up going to speer gd. Just have not tried any more of it. Got to where I only use one 9mm hp load now a 124gr +P gd load in the 4 9mm's we have and I shoot kahrs now.

Give a speer Gold Dot 124grs a try. There bullet profile has worked well in ever 9mm I have had includeing the pf-9http://www.speer-ammo.com/ballistics/detail.aspx?loadNo=23618

I did my PF-9 same as I do all my auto pistols I remove from box lock slide back run some miltec down slide rails Load mag and get to shooting . 50 rounds. Then I take apart and clean. I have now 5 KelTecs . None have ever gave me 1st problem . Ive had to pistols that didn't pass the test A Para Ordance compact and a Llama. Para went back to warrenty and so did llama . Both came back still didn't work. They got traded.
PF-9 has become main carry pistol. 1911 's are up set.
