380Pistol help

Majic I think asking for the gun to even get thru one mag without a single jam is not expecting to much from QC. I fired a 100 rounds and could not get 3 in a row that is completely unnacceptable by any ones standards.

Wolfy,
Your problem resulted from shooting the Silver Bear!!
I learned the hard way that the P3AT was NOT designed to extract STEEL cased ammo!! You violated the first rule of ammo. Commie ammo for commie guns!! I own several Makarovs, which were designed to fire steel cased ammo. The extractor for the Makarov is the same as for the AK-47, for God's sake!!
I forgot that and tried to shoot Silver Bear, which has steel under that nickle plating, and durn near FU'ed my gun!! I made it through 9 rounds before a case failed to extract (you can't blame a mechanical device for failing to do what it was never designed to do) and stuck in the chamber!! Now, my assembly pin wants to back out during recoil and I get pelted with brass, probably due to the extractor being "tweaked" by trying to handle those :cuss: steel cases!! I have detail cleaned it and will take it to the range tomorrow. I plan to fire standard pressure BRASS CASED ammo. If it malfunctions, I will have to send it off to Kel-Tec!!

Point being, don't blame the gun for doing it's best to do what you have ordered it to do!! Handling steel cased ammo is, more than likely, outside the design specs!!

If you can carry and conceal a gun the size of a Bersa why get a 380? There are quite a few 9mm & .40 S&W guns in this size/weight range.

The very light weight and small size of the P3AT makes it worth the hassle of sending it back to Kel-Tec as many times as it takes for then to make right.
Read the forums www.ktog.org or www.ktrange.com and you'll see lots of initally dissatisified owners made happy eventually.

My P3AT (which had to go back, but works great now) and FEG SMC-380 will not work with any steel cased ammo (wolf, Silver Bear, Brown Bear, or Barnaul, Silver Bear came closest to working but wan't good) Curiously the Beretta 86 I got for my wife since it has a tip up barrel so she never has to rack the slide works perfectly with Wolf and it has no extractor at all! On the short time scale of gun fire very small differences can make a large difference in effect.

Hi Wally,
:)

The Kel-Tec P-3AT is a true pocket pistol, and I was under the impression that the factory would make good on any flaws in the product, with a fairly quick turnaround. Syd's Fluff and Buff --linked-to in one of the posts above, is basic common sense for a great number of gun-types. P-3AT owners who've had their pistols fluffed-and-buffed and nudged (at home or at the factory) are actually some of the more satisfied gun owners out there, and they understand their pistol better if they've worked on it a bit.

The BERSA Thunder 380 isn't really a pocket gun.
It's just a personal-defense handgun that happens to be chambered in .380 ACP. It happens to be ridiculously reliable out of the box, easy to shoot with accuracy, and (like the P-3AT) is priced quite affordably.

If you have lots of concealed carry in mind, minor corrective work on the P-3AT is well worth the carryability you get with the firearm. The BERSA is a bit more work to carry concealed, but most find it to be a sweeter shooter.
