Hello, I am new. I just purchased a new Kletec plr 16 semi auto ,and would like to know if there are any other owners on this site. Also what ammo have you used for the best accuracy. I am also thinking about using it in some hunting situations, thanks, pwillie:what:

I'm a big PLR fan, got two. Shooting one just yesterday.

Ammo.
The best is my hand loads,
but Black Hills has done right well.

Even standing and shooting my "blasting" reloads (bad scored bullets) at 100 yards the gun easily empties a 30 round mag mostly into COM.

The gun does not like Wolf. Cases will jam in the chamber so bad they must be driven out with a steel cleaning rod.

I noticed in your pics ,the thirty rnd clip.Could you tell me the brand? Also what about the scope? I do some hand gun hunting with a Ruger 44 mag,but woulkd like trying my hand with the PLR.How about Rem. sot nosed jacket? 55 gr.? Pwillie

This is some of the other ammo I've used and the results.
Bare in mind I'm a 70 year old fart with less than good eyes and a shaking hand, so the gun is actually shooting better than these targets show.:D
The sights used was either a 5X Burris pistol scope or a BSA Red Dot sight.

Almost all my AR mags are mil spec that I've bought new at the gun shows.
My first PLR required a little break in but the second ran 100% out of the box.
I use either a old Burris 5X or TC 2-7 variable scope or a BSA Red Dot.
At present I have a ($$$$) green laser on one PLR just for fun blasting.

I don't know what to make of that 55 gr Rem JSP (green box). The last 6 boxes we bought from Wal Mart was very inaccurate in a friends (accurate) bolt action rifle. You could actually hear the difference in the sound from shot to shot.

Try different ammo in your PLR and see what it likes.
The best accuracy I get is with Hornady or Sierra 52gr JHPBT (match) bullets.

Awesome gun and pictures, I need to get one! I don't think there is a concealable rig that compares to it in range and firepower. (Concealable being a stretch, but possible.)

Not to mention that without a flash suppressor bystanders might think you are shooting a flame-thrower!

They are fun! Which is all the justification I needed. Mine has been fine with Wolf steel cased ammo so far.

Yep, noisy, fun and accurate. If you bring a friend or two out shooting with your PLR-16, watch out, they'll shoot up all your .223 ammo on-hand (just like Lay's potatoes chips, they just can't stop at one mag)!:D Here's mine:

The flash without a flash hider or Kel Tec muzzle brake installed.

It's hard to believe but this was taken a few minutes after the above picture after a Phantom flash hider was installed on the PLR.
Yes the the gun is firing.:D

This is a close up of the Phantom flash hider when the gun is fired.

I am told they are extremely noisy to shoot..

One of my neighbors is close to my range and has been hearing me shoot most everything for years.
After the first time I shot the PLR, as I walked by his place he said,
What the heck are you shooting? I don't think I've heard anything that loud. :D

Without the forearm and flash hider the gun isn't really all that big.

I'm probably the only PLR owner that likes the stripped down dune buggy look of the plain Kel Tec. I recently took everything off one of my guns and enjoy shooting it like that.
Have to be careful of touching the barrel though. It quickly gets so hot it would give a terrible burn if accidentally touched.

I have ordered a sling from keltec, and a muzzle brake, but haven' t decided on a forarm.I kinda like the naked look also.I have shot mine with the 10 rnd mag and it sems to do ok like it is.I wish some one would come out with an after mkt style forend.I was looking at the Kriss-Tdi in 45 cal,but decided the Keltec was the best for my money. I also have a XD 45 tactical, and it shoots well. The PLR wasn't anything to worry about with a kick. The PLR reminds me of a "Hopped UP" Schmiesser macine pistole.,or a Broom handle mauser..

Yeah, it does kind of remind you of a small MP-40, like my young friend is shooting here. I told him I could empty the MAC 10 before he could empty the MP-40.:D
A full auto PLR would be cool. Well actually, VERY HOT.:)

When I was in south east asia,I carried a 30 cal. M1 carbine semi-auto. I preferred semi auto over full auto. Two 30 rnd mags taped together worked for me.THe old M1 carbine was good for close in-work.To me,a well placed shot is better than spray and pray!:what:

So, short of a suppressor, is there any way to make one of these a little quieter to shoot? I've been thinking of getting one, but wouldn't want to ever have to use it "for real" in any kind of enclosed space (like my house) for fear of what it would do to my hearing. I think one would be perfect for my wife, who has trouble with rifles due to her vision, but this would give her rifle firepower that she could handle like a pistol.

Thanks.

for around 200.00 bucks you can get a stamp from ATF for the suppresser.Check this out, because I was told that by an ATF officer at a gun show.

My friends and I agree that the Phantom flash hider reduces the noise just the SLIGHTEST amount but it would still wreck your unprotected ears.

I keep full mags in both of my PLR's but they wouldn't be the first thing I'd grab for HD because of the noise. Just in case though, I keep ear muffs laying on top of the gun safe.

Except for the noise the PLR might work well for your wife for HD. Especially with a laser/light installed and if she got a little practice, I would not want to face the PLR, in the hands of someone that knew how to use it, no matter what I was armed with.

From what little I've seen on the internet a suppressor doesn't work well with full loads from that 9 inch PLR barrel.

I got My PLR-16 from my wife, as a first year wedding anniversary present.:D

I love the gun, its down right awsome and fun to shoot.

I skipped the forearm, going for the Hand Solo blaster look.

I added a military style compensated flashhider, that does a great job at reducing muzzle climb and speeds up the action.

The further addition of a red dot site makes it feel more tacticool.:)

I think I might add a laser site to it for low light work.

I'm a little curious about the PLR-22 keltec put out. might be nice to have a matching set.

So what's the proper stance to hold it when you shoot it???

Is it considered a short barrel rifle? Or no because of the design - no stock?

I shoot mine from a straight forward stance with both hands,I don't have a forearm,so I put my left hand and fingers around the magazine.Great fun to shoot.:)
