I'm thinking seriously about getting one of these. Old standard knives and steel like Case or Buck have never been a problem to sharpen using stones or ceramics.
Newer steels, s30v, ats-34 and such are a serious pain to get right.
What are your experiences with the worksharp?

I use one almost exclusively. I usually sharpen every kitchen knife and my hunting knives twice/yr. Pre-thanksgiving and pre- Easter.
I love my worksharp. I enjoy having sharp knives. Mrs enjoys having sharp knives. I also take it to my friends and family visits and sharpen kitchen knives. All the wives love me....including my M-n-L!;)
I have many Arkansas stones for touch-ups on hunting and fillet knives and edc knives.....but for all practical purposes it is the WORKSHARP.
You wo tbe disappointed and your knives will be sharp.
I know ppl who say" you won't come near my knives with that grinder! I only use quality stone......
:cuss:
Their knives are generally dull!;)

Try as I might, some steels are almost impossible with stones. I get very frustrated spending an hour on a knife, and it's still not sharp. I'm usually a patient guy, but there are limits.

"IF" you get one, please read the directions and watch the video.

People are quick to put down the worksharp. Main reason, rounding the tip of the knife. And taking off to much material.

Plenty of YouTube videos that you can watch and learn from. Take an hour or so to do some looking around.

They offer a bunch of different belts also, shop around for the best prices.

I've been watching the videos. They are why I think I'm getting one. What now takes hours, should take 30 minutes or less. With equal, or better results.

Ease and quickness of sharpening at the bench doesn't necessarily mean the sharpening is easier and quicker. I can get a razor edge pretty quickly at the bench using about anything. Razor sharpness and edge retention is what I sharpen for. That requires precise angle and burr control. I can spend a few minutes sharpening to a razor edge at a bench only to find out that edge dulled so quickly that I have to resharpen in the field. Sharpening in the dark with a flashlight held in my mouth in the freezing rain is not what I consider ease of sharpening.

I have a standard for sharpening my hunting knives. The sharpening method and steel must allow me to field dress two deer and the edge still remain sharp enough to shave hair off of my arm. I have achieved this.

I love mine. Used for a few years. BUT regardless if how many videos I watch or how early i release the trigger I still round some of the super pointed tips.

I just carry sharp knives with a slightly rounded but sharp tip. Lol

How well does it do on pocket knives? Like a Case medium stockman size, or a peanut? I've seen larger blades done, but wonder about the smaller stuff.

I love the workshop. I have the older model that I mainly use for my machetes, hatchets, and hunting knives. I would definitely recommend the Ken Onion workshop, they have made improvements over the one I have that blows mine out of the water, you will not be disappointed. I just recently ordered the workshop precision elite adjust or something like that for the kitchen knives, it works great too.

I have one and it is awesome. Sharpened all types of knives, scissors and my axes. Highly recommend.

I use mine on everything. My leatherman is 154cm (pliers are broke and its back getting repaired....). I have many knives and my dad and bil all bring their junky knives. All the way up to my marine Camillus. All sharpen razor sharp in a couple minutes. Belts last forever

The mower blade/axe attachment is pretty useless. I wouldn't recommend that....I can sharpen an ax with the regular head and a slow grinder works better for mowers

I have one and use it to sharpen everything from my edc pocket knife with a S90V blade to the wife’s kitchen knifes, even sharpen my machete with it. It works really well, unfortunately my brother gives me a lot of flack about it.
He says I’m a cheater, but I’ve never enjoyed sharpening a knife like he does, it’s simply a necessary chore to me.

I will say I have noticed if you’re not careful you’ll round the tip off with it, that sharp point will disappear. If you pay attention and learn how to properly use it you want have that problem.

As for small knifes, I’ve sharpened one of those ~1” keychain knives to shaving sharp with it several times.

I have one also but I bought a cheap Harbor Freight foot pedal to operate it. Lets me use two hands to help guide the blade and keep it steady.
