I am thinking about getting a new Kimber Tactical Pro II, but the 1 year warranty has me a little scared. I have several handguns that developed problems after the first year, and were fixed by the factory under warranty. One had a cracked frame, one showed premature wear of the slide, and on another the extractor broke after 3 years. All of these problems were fixed by the factory at no charge. Does Kimber hold to there 1 year warranty? What if a major problem happens after that first year? Has anyone had any experience with Kimbers service after the first year?

All comments will be appreciated!

Many gun makers offer no written warranty at all, like Ruger. Kimber, like Ruger will fix the gun as long as you own it. They have also been known to fix guns that were purchased used under warranty. You have to pay shipping but they will fix it.

I have three Kimbers.

The Stainless Gold Match was purchased in 1998. I went through the usual break-in period problems, but after that everything was fine.

Then, a couple of years later, a range buddy handed me his AMT Hardballer. I couldn't believe how nice the trigger was.

So, I called Kimber to see if they would lighten and smooth out the trigger. I figured I'd have to pay, since it was out of warranty.

They just told me to ship it to them, and they'd get the trigger down to a smooth 3.5 pounds.

And they didn't charge me anything.

I also had a problem with a long-out-of-warranty Pro Carry. The slide stop was bunged up. I called, and they sent me a new one at no charge.

I think most manufacturers of gun-related products realize they have to bend over backwards to keep their customers satisfied. I can't tell you how many time RCBS has sent me replacement parts for my press at no charge, even though it was my fault that the part broke.

Buy the gun , they will treat you right
Shop is very good about warranty work , do not woory about time line

Kimber should have the best service dept. in the firearms industry, as they get more practice than all the other manufacturers combined.

Rockstar,
Sounds like you have something to say about Kimber's. Talk to me, I don't want to make a mistake and regret buying one. My dollars are hard earned, and I can't afford to spend good money on bad guns. I plan on this being my carry gun, and one that I can trust to be there when I need it. No excuses just dependable.

Thanks to all,

Kimber is replacing the night sights on a used TLE2 for me right now for free. And yes I told them it was used. their reply was "as long as noone has jacked up the gun trying to work on it, we'll fix it, no matter if you bought it new or used"

No matter who's name is on the side of the handgun it's possible that it is defective and it will break in time if used. No one's repair shop is beyond making or missing mistakes. So buy what you feel comfortable with and if a problem pops up just have it repaired.

Nothing wrong with Kimbers, but I believe they do make more 1911s than any other manufacturer now, ergo, they probably have more experience in service than the others. As far as I know, the main objection to Kimbers in the past (other than the MIM debate) is that their pistols frequently leave the factory with improper (sometimes zero) extractor tension.

I was irritated with Kimber once. My '99 Stainless Gold Match was long out of warranty when the staked nut on the adjustable sight fell off in the weeds. I called in to buy one and they said they'd send "one" for free. They did - an entire rear sight. :) I hadn't planned on changing the thing out, but what the heck, right?

In the few instances where I've had to return a gun to the manufacturer for repairs (Kimber included), I have never been asked how long I'd owned the gun. They just fixed it and sent it back to me. No questions.

FWIW, I have 3 Kimbers and the only issue I have ever had aside from my own screwups was a Pro Carry that lost a plunger tube. I bought a replacement and restaked it myself. The newest one I have, a TLE II gets the most use as it is my IDPA gun. Not a single issue with it since I bought it. I have probably got 10,000 rounds or more through it by now.

I bought a CDP Pro two days after 9-11. I have not had an issue whith them and have talked to there service department.(Purchased a 22 conversion kit.) Guys I think the days of buying a firearm and not having some issues occasionly are over. I've purchase three handguns in the last 4 months, the last one a Smith. An Airweight model in 38 caliber fixed sight it shot 12 inches to the right at 20 yards. The gunshop tried its best to say this is a close quarter gun and not ment for target shooting. Well no kidding but they should shoot to point of aim. I took over a target that I had shot at twenty yards and had them send it back to smith. Its now the best shooting snubby I have ever had. I see some Kimber bashing here but I have ran about 1500 rounds through mine in 45 and thousands in 22 without a hitch.
