I left for the OGCA show this morning with the hopes of finding a good .22lr sporting rifle, as I approached the last few rows it seemed as though I might be going home empty handed, There were plenty of target 22s but the high quality sporters were few and far between, and most of what interested me was out of my $700 price range, or that darn .17 caliber. I really was hoping to stay under $500 and have $200 for a scope. While casually passing a group of heavy target rifles I almost missed the little sporter, I took a step back and asked to take a look. It was just what I had been looking for, a quality .22 Kimber Hunter in near mint condition, I was sure it was going to be over a grand with the Kimber mounts Leupold rings and a 6x20x44 AO Simmons scope, as all the other Kimbers there were over $1000. Then I noticed the price tag with $700. After going over it for a few minutes and finding only two very small dings in the wood, the gentleman said he could do $650 for the rifle, so whipped out the cash and paid the man. I think I sprained my wrist getting to my wallet. I will eventually replace the scope with a good one, but the oversized Simmons should work for now. I can't wait to get out to the range tomorrow to do some ammo testing.
