Anybody have any experience with the Kimber Covert 45? Good, Bad, opinions. Would it be worth the money?

try calling dennis at the service dept first, he is not helpful.
I HAD a pro carry 2 with the external extractor, not worth the money IMO.

If you're really into the laser grips it seems like it is cheaper to buy a gun that has them from the factory.

You'll read good and bad about kimber. I've had good luck with them. I had a pro carry II (internal extractor) briefly never had a problem but I didn't really shoot it much either. I currently have an older stainless target (the pre II series) that I have a ton of rounds through. I bought it used.

My only complaint with Kimber is that they are getting pretty pricey. I used to think that the plain jane models were a decent deal for $600-$700. When you start forking out $1200-$1500 I start to wonder if looking into Baer's isn't a better idea.

Seems like this model is about $1200, if you want every feature it has it's a decent deal. The laser grips are around $250 to buy separately. So you're paying about a $1000 for an aluminum framed 1911 with a checkered front strap and the rest of the bells and whistles. That isn't too bad.

Just make sure you want an aluminum frame and the laser grips. I wouldn't be into the color scheme, but...I am not you.

I own five Kimbers, four are Ultras, the latest being the Ultra Covert II.

Bottom line, I have the choice of carrying ANY gun I want and I carry one of the Ultras equipped with the Crimson Trace Laser grips.

I own 4 kimbers with a 5th hopefully on the way. Kimber had many issues with the external extractor. All of mine are internal and have shot very well out-of-the-box. I have a Custom II, Pro Carry II, Raptor II, And Ultra Raptor II.

Hello

I have a Ultra Carry II and a TLE/RL. Both have been near flawless. I think I had FTE with the TLE on the first couple of mags.
The Ultra is my EDC.
I personaly don't like laser grips, but to each their own.
Good Luck

I currently own but one Kimber, and its the Stainless Ultra Carry II. Like
others have said, "its been a 100 per center" (reliable) so far. Also, my
former 5" Kimber Raptor was near perfect; but I had to move it, to make
$$$ for my NIB Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special 1911~! :scrutiny: ;) :D

Custom II with External extractor here...always been 100% - great gun.

I've had the Tactical Ultra II for some time and there's not been the slightest problem with the external extractor. That's not something that I can say about 1911 internal extractors in years past.

Those grips are plain ugly. I have a Kimber but would never spend money on that pistol.

I don't disagree with you. I'd just as soon have a solid brown color or some such.
The pistol shows extremely good workmanship. Outside of a high dollar custom gun I don't think I've seen one as nice.

I really like the looks of the Tactical Ultra, but now the ugly black Crimson Trace Laser Grips detract fron it's looks.

I am one of those people that love Kimber. They just feel better to me than a Springfield when I shoot them and they are leaps and bounds above Colt anymore.

Did a little fun range testing with the Ultra Covert II yesterday. I wanted to see how the Covert does at distance.
First, I shot 24 rounds and when I walked down to the target. I had seven misses, probably to far left. Bad average.
So I shot 16 more, correcting a little right and got two more misses. One miss in eight was better.
Total was 9 misses in 40 shots. Leaves room for improvement.

The Covert is a keeper.:)

I can get a max of 112 yards on my range. The silhouette is in the Red circle.

Fun shooting.:D
(I have 8 misses on the target but a recount showed only 31/40 hits in the silhouette.)

My Kimber Ultra Carry 2 is great. Had a few failures of the slide to go fully into battery in the 1st 100 rounds I shot through her, but has been flawless since that time.

shot my Bro-in-law's kimber Raptor II...

I don't like a lot of recoil...
but for that gun, I'll put up with it.
Amazing. The wife loved it.
Envy. one of the seven deadly sins? :(
