I shot a .308 kimber 84m classic today and I'm speechless. I loved every aspect of that gun, the trigger?! oh man the trigger was PERFECT!, weighed about 6lbs with a VX-III 3.5-10. Without a doubt I'll be purchasing one before deer season, out with the A-Bolt in with the Kimber. They'll soon be offering them in 300 WSM, I'm not a huge fan of WSM but its either that or .308... I'll give WSM a shot. Anyone have any experience with these at all?

That is the way to go. It is better to have just a few guns that you really like than an arsenal of guns that you're on the fence about. By all accounts, the A-bolts are good guns, but I bet the Kimbers are better.

Unless you handload, I would go with the 308 Winchester. You will have a much easier time finding ammo with it. There is no chance that round will flop. Winchester has unwisely flooded the market with new ammo all at once. I think some of them won't make it...

The basis of the WSM and WSSM rounds was that the short, fat case leads to the powder burning more efficiently. They are modeled after the world's most accurate cartridge, the 6mm PPC. If you can find a pic of one, you will see that it is the exact same shape.

On the other hand, the 308 is proven out to 1000 yards in open sighted rifle competition. It is hard to argue with that.

hmm good points, 308 surely has proven itself over these long years. I am just bias to 300 WSM because my friend has a model 70 wsm and is very pleased with the accuracy and velocity. Then again its a toss-up, I'm about to buy a gun that will last forever, I need a cartirdge that will accompany it over the years.

Did a lot of looking into them a while back, and I consider the rifle practically ideal. Only problem is I shoot lefty.

- Controlled Round Feed
- 5 round capacity
- *very* light weight
- match chamber

I was gonna use it as a basis for a general purpose rifle, in .308 instead I have to go custom, and even then it won't be as good as that Kimber.
