Hi guys, the gun bug has bit me again and I'm really hankering for a new tool (well, I guess I always am). I'm going to be paying for a cpl class for my girl for part of her x-mas gift and I know she'll want my 442, there for I am in the market for a new carry piece.

I've always drooled over compact 1911's despite becoming more and more of a revolver guy. I was debating between an sp101 (.357) and buying another 442/642 but when I decided to stop in the fun store they had something.... a kimber cdp pro II. I love my custom tle II, could someone please share their negative experiences with cdp pro II's (i suppose any of the cdp line) and perhaps some of their positive experiences. It's used and sub $900, though it looked good, and that seems like a swell price to me. So help sway me one way or the other and give me some of your opinions!

Love my CDP II Custom. Works fantastic, nice and light but doesn't transfer to more recoil... weird and very nice really.

I got my CDP Pro, Series 1, several months ago, used of course. I actually had decided that my full size, all steel Kimber was too heavy to carry & swapped for this alloy frame pistol. I love it. It is every bit as accurate as the Kimber Classic Gold Match I had & much lighter to carry. That's no exaggeration; it really is accurate. The one problem I had was that it would remain open even with rounds left in the mag. A quick call to Kimber & they sent me a new slide stop for free. Not any issues since then. Did I mention that I LOVE THIS PISTOL.

BTW, I also have and carry the Ruger SP-101 & have only positive things to say about that one.

I wouldn't mind a Kimber Pro CDP myself (either the newer II or the series I). From the internet buzz Kimber isn't what it used to be, but a buddy has one of the first series II Kimbers and it has been a terrific pistol (incredibly accurate and reliable). Probably the only thing stopping me is I have a S&W 1911SC so I have no need for another alloy, Commander-sized 1911 and I have no wish to sell the S&W. Maybe I'll try the Ultra CDP someday instead.

Based on the experience with my buddy's Kimber II, I'd say give it a try. It is used so worst case, if it isn't so reliable you won't be out too much money when you sell it (or you may be able to get a gunsmith to get it working right and still be out less than a new Kimber CDP Pro II). Best case, you'll have one incredible self defense pistol.

Ideally I'd like a 4 inch barrel with an officers frame, I think the particular one I saw was the short barrel but full size frame, not that big of a deal I don't think. They also had a bobbed night hawk (drroooooooooool) that I played with for a minute
