I have a brand new never shot new in box Glock 17 Flat Dark Earth and a guy wants to trade me his Kimber Custom II for it . From the pictures it looks pretty good . What would you guys do ? I originally had it for trade for a Glock 21 only but I never had a Kimber before.
Is there any problems with the Kimber Custom II ? Is it reliable out of the box ?
Is it the "series 70" style or the "series 80" style with the extra safety crap ?

From what I gather, Kimber Custome II has a good trigger, good finish and few cost cutting parts in the gun. Most complain people has to Customer II were the MIM parts, plastic MSH.

I would trade a Glock to a Custom II any day of week. As long as I still have one Glock by my bed side.

PS: Custome II use Swartz firing pin safety.

Dollar for dollar you will probably come out slightly ahead with the Kimber but for me I would keep the Glock because it would fit into my collection well. (I need a 17 FDE)
I have a G2 21 with a bunch of mags, how do you want to trade?

all Kimbers have MiM...that was their thumb in the eye to the "bigs"...most complain about the Swartz safety on the Kimbers with a II in their name...I wouldn't let that stop you from making the deal unless the pistol is problematic or beat up...

Trade if it's even IMO. Glocks are a dime-a-dozen. I could swap back in any local retail shop.

I do not like Series II Kimbers. But, they're usually good enough.

My Custom II is the best handgun I have ever owned. I use it for everything. I would carry it to war tomorrow if I were allowed.

HAVING SAID THAT, it makes me scratch my head a little bit, that this guy is so eager to get rid of his? Mine was great, but it is possible that he either got a lemon, or that he messed it up somehow. Just be cautious.

There have been some issues with certain Kimber models. The Custom II is their most basic line, and the one with the least issues. I've had one for years. It is far better than the Colt's and SA's I've owned, but a step down from the S&W's I own.

If you must have a 1911, it is a fair trade. But the Glock is a better gun than any 1911.

I believe that Kimber still recommends a 500 round "break-in" on a new pistol

Maybe they do, but mine has been perfect for 7-8 years now with no break-in required

Raptor II here. Never a single hiccup so I quit counting at 1200 rds. It does bedside duty. I would trade a Glock for a Kimber any day.

The Kimber Custom II is a fine 1911. If in very good condition, I would make the trade.

I would do the trade. I've had a Custom II for eight years and it has always fired and functioned well. I also have a G17 as my full size 9mm carry gun. They are both great pistols, IMO. I would do the trade, in this case..

My Kimber Custom II was a pile of dog poop. Never functioned correctly with anything but FMJ. I ended up disclosing the problems and selling it at a loss.

Kimbers are sweet looking but have to many problems. I would walk away.

Meet up with him, put 100 rounds through it and decide for yourself.

Our opinions and experiences are, for the most part, immaterial.

See if you like it, and if it functions well. Go from there.

Best, Rich

I have been shooting a custom II target for about 7 years. It shoots anything I feed it. Most of my shooting is a cast 200 gr.swc lyman 452460 .I have hever had any problems with the gun or ammo. Based on my experience I would recommend kimber to anyone looking for a good 1911.

I decided to just keep the Glock until I either find a Springfield 1911 or a good shape G21 . Thanks so much fr all this information , I sure learned a lot of stuff about Kimbers

Bought a new Stainless Target ll in 10mm last Oct. 700 rounds of everything from white bx. to D Tap. Not a hiccup. Two deer, 72 and 84 yds. No break in period. Also have (2) G20 SF's and (1) G27 Gen 4... Love both brands. Eclipse 10mm coming soon
