I read the discussion on the Kimber Schwartz safety. I have one Kimber Custom Classic I, without the Schwartz safety system. I've noticed that the safety in my Custom Classic switches to the off position with a very smooth click. Perhaps too smooth. I've pressed the trigger (on an empty gun, of course  ) and it's worked fine, no hammer drops. Have safety problems been known to emerge with the Custom Classic or other Kimber I autos? I've always wondered why Kimber adopted the Schwartz safety system.

People pay custom gunsmiths lots of money to get their 1911s to do that. Why are you worrying about your gun working properly?

Zeabed,

Sounds like your Kimber is working perfectly. I, also, have a series I Kimber, a Pro Carry. The thumb safety on that gun "snicks" (what it sounds like) on and off very positively and without slop. That is one feature of the Kimbers that is very nice.

The thumb safety on my Springfield 1911A1 Loaded is nice, but not quite as crisp and positive as the safety on my Kimber.

If you don't like it, I'll be happy to take it off your hands. :D

Well, if the safety is too easy to flick off, and this is not by design but by defect, then it's a potential hazard. If it's by design and still safe, then ok, but I prefer a positive safety than a too-easy one, especially if one carries it cocked-and-locked. Better be safe than sorry. I like all the other "customized-out-of-the-box" aspects of the Kimber Series I, but I wouldn't mess with the traditional 1911 safety design.

You can always peen it up a little if it's too smooth for you. Remember the grip safety still has to be depressed before it fires if carrying it like it is now bothers you.
