Kimber malfunctions

I'm not sure if my question goes here or somewhere else but...

Friday my husband and I went to the range to try our new guns. I got him a Kimber Pro Carry II. I went to try it an it kept malfunctioning (he had the same problem). We had two magazines one that came with it and one we got at Cabella's. The one we got at Cabella's seemed to be the magazine that kept malfunctioning. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem like that.

P.S. My gun, the Springfield worked like a dream! Now I want another one!

I suppose it could be the aftermarket magazine causing the malfunctions but if you read the manual, Kimber states that their guns are held to such tight manufacturing tolerances as there may need to be a 500 round breaking in period required before they can feed & function reliably. I would just shoot your Kimbers a while and if after enough rounds have been through them and you are still having trouble give Kimber a call. They should make it right with you. Good Luck, LM.

Also if you could pin point if it was a single mag or both. Depending on the manufacturer my money would be on the aftermarket magazine. If it is the aftermarket magazine then I would try a different brand like a Wilson or order another one from Kimber.

Thank you for all your advice. And I'm pretty sure it was the after market one. I will try to find some Wilson mags (or Kimber).

I had the same issue with the magazine that came with my Kimber Ultra Carry II. On the advice of the gun store where I purchased it, I switched to Wilson's. I have not had any isues since.

I was looking at another Kimber, at a different gun store last week. The first thing out of the salesman's mouth was that I would probably want to consider Wilson or MacGregor (?) mags if I purchased the gun as Kimbers seem to have issues with their own mags.

I am no expert on this, only passing on what I heard. Hope this helps.

Wilson's or Chip McCormick's. I've used them both with no issues whatsoever.

It may be one magazine causing all the problems. To be sure, devise a method of distinctively marking them (e.g., number painted in White-Out on the baseplate) and note which one is in use when the malfunction occurs. If it is only the one magazine, stop using it and get some more like the ones that do work.

I too had problems with the kimber oem mag. I switched to wilson and many of the problems went away. I also found that my pro covert doesn't like ball ammo.This is strange but just about any hollow point cycles flawlessly.

Sounds like a magazine issue...there is a lot of good info to be found by doing a search on magazines but to put it short and sweet; use a 7rd mag with a dimpled follower such as sold by Colt or made by Metalform or Check Mate...these are the most reliable magazines for a 1911...what does the mag that came with the Springfield look like? Sure, other mags may work but could be at the expense of your extractor...learn how the feeding cycle works and you'll see what I mean.....check out posts and stickys by 1911Tuner (gunsmithing and repairs forum) for some educational reading.....Oh, and Welcome!!

i agree i would say that it is the mags, chip mc cormicks are awesome mags, and they are less than wilson mags price wise. also kim pro tac mags are good to go.

+ 1 on the Wilson mags. They are worth the extra money, in my opinion.

You can have the most expensive 1911 ever made with all the custom features but if you use crappy magazines it becomes an expensive paperweight! I'll say that I have had the best luck with the wilson mags and with the chip mccormick power mags.
