Trouble with Kimber

"Get a glock seems to be a standard answer. Has anyone here seena glock fail? I am not a huge glock fan but I have owned a couple of 23's and a couple of 19's. I never had one malfunction. Do they happen?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes.
A friend had so much trouble with his new 17 that he tried to give it to me.
I wouldn't take it.
He finally got it running after throwing enough money at it.

He didn't learn and bought a couple more Glocks that he had to put money in. I believe now his 19 has a broken guide rail that there is a recall about.

The range where I qualify for my CCW requires that you use their Glocks and factory FMJ ammo.
Granted the guns probably have had a lot of use (but isn't that what Glock owners say they are good for) but EVERY time I've shot or been there when others are shooting, at least one gun jams on almost every rapid fire string.

I really don't want to bash a gun I haven't own but I won't own one because I won't have one even if it's free. :D

There is nothing magic about Glock pistols, or Sig, CZ, Kimber, Wilson, Springfield, or Colt.

Everybody makes a bad one sometimes. Happens with cars, too. It does seem, however, that Kimber has more than it's fair share of problems with it's new extractor system.

That said, I know there is nothing wrong with an external extractor. In fact, there are a few things right with it (like no need to adjust tension). But Kimber seems to have engineered thier external extractor poorly (judging only by internet-anecdotes. A method of gathering information which I understand can be extremely misleading)

Well I'm hoping my new SW1911SC will give me a life time of service. It does have an external exctractor and I have only put about 300 rounds through it, but it performed flawlessy with everything I fed it. including a 100 rounds of russian steel case. S&W has alot of expierience with external extractors. As for a polymer guns, I have owned my share. It wasn't until I had a Kahr p40 that I had any problems with them. I also agree that everyone produces a lemon now and then. 1911's are just "right" for me. I can't shoot any other style as accurately or as comfortably. Weight is not an issue for me and I like the feeling of steel in my hands.

As noted above, external extracotrs of themselves are not the problem. S&W 1911s seem to run just fine wioth one. But for some reason, Kimber can't seem to get it right. They are currently on their, I believe, 4th redesign.

In the last couple of years I have had or currently do have 14 different Kimbers. Some I'll never part with and some now belong to family members. I have had no problems whatsoever with any of them except my 9mm Kimber (which is now flawless).

Most of my friends also have Kimbers and have had no problems. I'm not denying that some people have problems with some of them, but I have never seen it first hand. Experience is much more pursuading than opinions.

I'd trust any one of my Kimbers in a battle. I'd trust my Glocks too. I also have some other brand guns that I wouldn't trust. I'd pretty much plan on tying them to the end of a rope and beating the other guy with them.

If anyone out there is so frustrated with their Kimbers that they want to give them away... or even sell them for a very low price, I'll be waiting for your PM. :D

M2 Carbine, I hate that your friend had trouble with his Glocks but he didn't have to throw a lot of money at them....Glock will repair them for free - he'd just have to ship it to them. A local Glock armorer could repair them at a modest cost also...Glock parts are not very costly.

Sorry for the temporary "hijack" of the thread but I just wanted M2 Carbine to be able to let his friend know not to spend a lot of money with a gunsmith on his Glocks if they need repair. Most parts are easily user replaceable - a big plus in my book.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.....

Ken

No Ken, I'm not bad mouthing Glocks on just our experience. He could have sent them to Glock but it was one thing after another that he was trying to take care of.
Anyhow he's satisfied with them now.

As for me it's just one of those things that there's just nothing I like about the pistol so I wouldn't waste my time with it.

I don't mind shooting my friend's Glocks once in a while.
I shot the 19 a while back to try some Win White box from Academy.
From 15 yards I made about one ragged hole (having a good day).
I gave him his 19 back and said,
"The foreign plastic POS is a waste of ammo. Darned thing puts all the bullets in the same hole". :D

Far too many people like the gun, just because I don't like it doesn't mean anything. :)
