Well I guess since I am a new member a little back round info won't hurt. I have 8 and a half years of active duty military experience as an infantryman, so weapons maintenance is not a foreign concept to me. I have abused weapons and cared for them gently, yet every time they performed like expected.

Long story short I just picked up a Kimber Pro CDP II two weeks ago. I went to the range Sat. and put 50 rounds down range. I know small amount for breaking in a weapon, but I was teaching a new shooter at the same time, so I din't have the time to really break the weapon in. If it was a mechanical issue I would chalk it up to not breaking it in properly, but the weapon fired flawlessly.

The issue came after I went home gave it a quick wipe down and oiled it up. After that I placed it in my nightstand, where it stayed. Friday I took it out to go to the range and give it a good break in session. As soon as I cleared it I noticed substantial rust on the barrel. I lloked closer and noticed rust on the slide, and grip safety. Once I broke it down the chamber has a trace amount of rust in it.
After spending over $1100 on a weapon I dont expect to see rust anywhere, even in the worse conditions. I just want to know if there are others out there with Kimbers that have had similar issues.

rust on kimber barrels are common. they use unfinished carbon steel for many of their models rather than stainless.

google the topic and your computer will explode. unacceptable for guns in their price range.

I have a Kimber Crimson Carry II I got last January. I was curious that the manual stated "signs of rust mean neglect." I had never seen that in a manual for a gun before.

I notice the specs for my gun that has what "seemed to me" a stainless barrel are as follows:
Length (inches): 5
Material: Steel, match grade
Stainless steel match grade bushing
Twist rate (left hand): 16

If the Barrel was was indeed stainless as I had thought when looking at it during purchase, it would seem they would state that like they did for the bushing on the website.

Lucky for me I have yet to see any rust, and have simply used a Remi oil cloth and a Silicone cloth a few times on the gun. I've fired about 700 rounds with it.

I do like it well, and it shoots well, and handles well, and carries well. I just make sure to treat it with a little more extra care do to that issue that has been on the internet posts.

And yes I would buy it over again.
