Would like to hear thoughts from anyone who has a 3" Kimber Ultra in 9mm.

Am looking to replace my Eclipse Ultra with something lighter, and my LGS has some 3" Kimber 9mms. I'm more interested in the Stainless Ultra Carry 9mm than the Aegis or CDP.

I bought a new 9mm stainless Ultra Carry II about 2 years ago, and I will not buy another Kimber. Right out of the box it was prone to stovepipes and failure to eject, so I sent it back for repairs. When it was returned to me, it worked fine but not for very long- maybe 200-300 rounds before it stopped fully extracting the spent case from the chamber, causing a jam with the follow-up round in the mag. It's been sitting in my safe collecting dust ever since, until I find the time to make another call and send it back for additional repairs. Once it's fixed again, I will promptly head off to my lgs and trade it away for something I can actually use.

The general consensus regarding Kimber is that they tend to be hit-or-miss as far as quality goes, and mine unfortunately is a miss. When it's working properly it's a fun gun to shoot, and it's very, very accurate, but I don't consider it a very reliable gun.

I've had a few Kimbers, all .45s and one took a few hundred rounds to become reliable (3" Eclipse Ultra) which I figured would be the one to have some trouble early on as to me a 3" 1911 is just odd.

Might just have to go for the Stainless Ultra in .45, their .45s seem to be better.

I love my Kimber CDP Ultra in .45 ACP, runs like a Swiss watch, and I also love my 9MM EMP. I would suggest you give the SA EMP serious consideration along with a Kimber.
