I came accross this at a pawn shop today. I figured before I made an offer I'd run it by some experts and see what you all think. I'm wondering how much this thing is worth and how much hassle it'd be to clean it up. Thanks and sorry about the crappy phone pictures.
1. First off, I'd pass on that King Cobra. The prevalence of rust makes me wonder how long it was stored in a damp environment and how much the internals reflect the same problem. It's a money pit waiting to happen.
2. The good news is that the stainless finish is the easiest finish to clean up and polish. The black sights...not so much. Lock work condition? Unknown until you can look inside. It would be a fairly involved labor of love to bring her back to snuff.
3. The bad news is that a home cleanup & re-polish will do little to give back the market value commonly asked for King Cobras. That semi-collectible value for discontinued Colts is already permanently gone.
4. Assuming you intend to use the weapon as a shooter... and assuming that it currently has no mechanical problems other than the rust....and assuming that you are willing to put a lot of hours (and some money) into cleanup...
Thanks. I think I'll keep looking. I did some looking on GunBroker and this pawn shop is way out of line. I'm sure they'd come down but they are crazy asking 899.00 for it. Yep. You read that right.
