Kirst or old west konverters which is closest to original konversions

historically what konverter is the most accurately replicated?

The Kirst style was on some of the original Colt conversions, I'm not familiar with Old West, but if they look like the R&D they are a recent invention.

Kirst. The Kirst style conversion closely resembles the Richard Mason design conversion which was the most popular conversion out there. Though there have been many different style conversions each almost tailoring to the gunsmith who worked on the gun. The kirst is the closest we have to the most popular. The R&D Design is great for people who want the gun to look more original than to a conversion. This is a popular choice for civil war re enactors as it allows the gun to look more original. As each chamber has its own firing type pin that will closley resemble a nipple. In the end its up to you to decide which style do you like and want to use

Actually, there was a conversion cylinder for Remington's that looked exactly like the R&D, less the firing pins.It was made for .46 caliber, and had the seperate backplate just like the modern R&D cylinder.

In the movie Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood. There is a spot towards the end. Clint eastwood fires a full cylinder with his 1858. He then undoes the loading lever. pulls the arbor pin. then slides out the cylinder i belive an R&D then slides in a new cylinder
