Big news first: Arne and Linda are gonna get married.

At the October shoot. On the range between sessions. I _think_ that makes it sorta gun related. Oleg, you ever shoot any weddings?

Should be one heckuva party with some "interesting" wedding presents.

Saw the Intune family, all with silly grins.

Beautiful days for all three days. Since the aux parking area is a swamp, Kenny, in his infinite wisdom, declared that the camping area would be sliced in half, and start at the security tower instead of up by the gate (where we camped last year, guys...). So we got a LOT more walking in, and had to camp on the side of a hill. I now have one leg shorter than the other.

Didn't see any truly cool new stuff. Found the lamps for Bogie's Bunker tho - A pair of 57mm brass casings... About 18" or so high bottlenecks... I'll post a pic soon, and if anyone can tell me about them, I'd appreciate it. The head looks like there's some Russian on it... They're gonna need some heavy Flitzing/Brassoing (got started on #1 while perusing the campfire), but they're gonna look pretty cool when I get through with 'em.

Also bought a 40mm Bofors dummy round, just to have sitting...

Talked to John Ross for a few minutes. The new book is scheduled for sometime in 2004.

Was there on Saturday.
I had never seen them open the range to gawkers (such as myself) and souvineer hunters, but I thought it was really neat to go out and check out the targets and walk the line.

The tank was pretty cool, I thought. Wish they had been able to fire the main gun, though.

I took a few pictures that can be found here ... they're not Oleg quality by any stretch of the imagination, but since he wasn't able to come, it's what we're stuck with.

I picked up a couple more milsurp rifles, some ammo and a few assorted bits o' stuff. <Diety> bless Cole Distributing.

Didn't see anyone I recognized and no one commented on my TFL shirt.

bogie...

"Oleg, you ever shoot any weddings?"

Could you be just a tad more specific in your terminolgy here? Does he bring his camera bag or his range bag? His lighting assistant or his tactical back-up? His spare lenses or his spare ammo?

It would be a bummer to show up with the wrong equipment for the task at hand.

Cool target photos! I better get to making a web page with Fall pics.

Circumstances permitting, will be there in the Fall and will do wedding pics.

Wonder if camping area was moved uphill due to mud/water in the hollow.

Couldn't make it...between the driving time, the cost of the process and having to do work here, had to miss it. Went to the range with slingers and found out how badly I stink with rifles. Did OK with pistols though, at least I could hit a paper plate at 25m with everything I fired.

K40 now shoots 1" right at 25m, rather than 1" at 7m. Will try lighter ammo defore meesing with sights again.

Can shoot G17 accurately or fast, not both. Took a long time for the muzzle to settle after each shot.

runt's Walther P1 surprised me pleasantly. But I also found that I need better breath control...stringed vertically.

Slingers' P7 was the most accurate of the bunch, though I had to un-learn the delicate "target" hold in order to cock the gun.

My Colt GM was accurate but mostly non-functional. Grrr.

Slingers' Vepr rocked. I am confused, though...Vepr, my Mak90 and FN49 seem very loud because I can hear the bolts slam inside of them...can't hear that with M1A, AR15. Is there something about those designs that makes them so hard on the ears? Maybe different cheeck weld puts jaw bone in contact with the stock?

Well, the auxilliary parking lot (I don't think you guys ever saw it) was sorta damp, so Kenny turned half the campground into a parking lot - So everyone was on the far side of the pond... the area was sorta damp for starters, but dried out by Saturday. Everyone who was camping ended up camping in different places than what they were used to - Arne ended up next to the guys from Subguns.com, and we had a blast.

Guys, those were some good pics - I didn't see anyone with a THR, TFL or ML shirt on...

That place just makes you smile!! Couldn't camp this time aarrggg. You MUST camp at KCR to really enjoy it. Seating around the range is, um, limited to say the least. The deals seemed a little harder to find this time. Did find a guy that had some FP-10 in 16oz bottles for $7.00. He said, "how 'bout 7?" I should have got more. He made his money on the AK recoil buffer that I got from him. Oleg, I just put this buffer in yesterday but everything I read about them says that it is the cheapest upgrade one can do to an AK varient resulting in a decrease in felt recoil, noise and stress on the weapon. i'll let you know after I test it. The Fall shoot is the one that we should plan on making a huge gathering. Looking forward to it already!

Oh yeah, Oleg...

The M-16, etc., tend to make boingy-boingy noises when you shoot 'em. With some other rifles, you can feel the bolt slamming around.

That's normal. You're probably feeling the noise more than you're hearing it. If you're hearing it, go for better hearing protection. When I'm actually shooting, I usually wear plugs and muffs.

With a rifle, settle down, relax, and just watch how the thing is moving with your heartrate. You'll see that it's cyclic. Squeeze the trigger in time with a cycle. LOTS of dry firing helps.

Yeah, there were a few deals, but not many... Kay wanted to get an SKS, but couldn't find anything like the deals from last fall. Did see some $90/case 7.62x39 tho...

Other news: There's gonna be another MG shoot down near Tulsa in mid June. Ad's in SGN.

That's what I got.
Dealer in C-13 (don't have his name offhand) was selling them for ~$160/170 ... not nearly as good as they used to be, but I wanted one so I did the deal (plus I've done business with him before with pleasant results)

Picked up some Wolf ammo for it @$85/K.

For those of you with less KCR experience: bringing a hand-truck is a must for anyone even considering the possibility of thinking about wanting to feel like looking at ammunition.
Believe me, you only haul a case of 1400 rounds of 8mm Mauser to your car by hand once. Even if it's 6.4 cents per round. A lesson I'm glad I got out of the way a year or two ago.
I didn't see anyone with a THR, TFL or ML shirt on...
How could you miss me?!? I'm the nondescript guy of average height and build with the nondescript haircut who dresses in a rather nondescript fashion ('cept for my flashy TFL shirt and stylin' Molon Labe hat).

I brought a cart, which nobody used... Guy next to us bought out half the place... I'm surprised he fit it all in his van.

Best way to cart ammo is to hire one of the guys who are driving around on the mules...

Bogie - thanks for the report! I was wondering how things went. I'm just now getting over my cold and that's after a weekend of lots of rest and staying warm... Didn't think being outside and sleeping in the cold & damp would have helped any.

Re: the ammo. Someone had told me last year about the hand truck idea and I was sure glad I did it last fall! Didn't even think about hiring a Mule driver. I'll have to remember that one for this fall.

Well, just so y'all know, it was the best weather I've EVER seen for a Knob Creek outing...

T-shirt weather during the day, and just cool enough at night to make sitting by the fire interesting. Got a little chilly early morning, but hey, with a few sleeping bags, that's just more incentive to snore... Then when the sun hit, things warmed up rapidly.

Bogie

Where did you see John Ross...I would have loved to have met him! Maybe buy a (another) copy of U.C to have him sign. The weather was great and I picked up some Ar-Parts at an o.k. price. I didn't see as many good deals on ammo as I have in years past.

After hearing about this place the first time about 3 years ago Ive wanted to go. Ive yet to have time, and now that I live down here in Nashville its closer tho. But I really want to make it to one soon. Seems every time it comes around I end up having plans or something else more important.....errr whats more important than tons of lead flying at immobile objects :)

I finally made it to the shoot. I was only able to be there for a few hours Friday. Lace didn't feel well and we ended up leaving around 7.

I feel like things probably got a bit wilder on Saturday.

Damn I wish I'd picked up that Red Dot sight and the Yugo SKS.

Oh, well, I guess there's the fall shoot!

I went, had a good time for my first visit. Very cool. The prices sucked at the show, but I wasn't there to shop as much as take it all in.

Here's a neato photo I took of the event (it's my wallpaper now)

Great shot, Swingset! I have got to get a better digital camera.
