Just got back from the range after shooting my 2 Remingtons. One is a Model 721 (.30-06) probably from the 1950's and the other is a newer Model 700 (.270Win) of about 1960's vintage. The .30-06 was my dad's and the .270 I bought new in or around 1966-1969.
After buying 4 different Savages over the past few years, all of which have the Accu-Trigger, I never realized just how horrible those Remington triggers were! I don't have a trigger weight guage but I'm guessing in the 9-12lb range. It seriously feels like the safety is on and then "Boom!".
The .270Win is shooting MOA (5-shot groups) and 0.6" (3-shot groups) so I'm thinking that I can really get some results off-hand with this rifle if only the trigger were at about 3-4lbs. I tried off-hand shooting this evening but by the time I could get the block-&-tackle hooked up to the trigger I was off the target. The adjustments are epoxy'd and I've heard some bad stories about setting these set-screws yourself.
I used one gunsmith who picked up Gander Mountain's and Scheel's (St. Cloud) guns that customers brought in for repair but he turned out to be pretty bad and actually made one of my rifles worse than when I brought it in! This had nothing to do with trigger work.
Any of you Minnesotan's know of a reputable gunsmith in the Twin Cities or north who is possibly good with Remington triggers?
