Got this used DP51, one very nice feel gun, but I could not figure out how to field strip it. There's no manual anywhere I can find. Any help?

Did a Google on your question, it came with a DP52. Most likely disassembles like a Walther PP. Other wise I would say to pack the barrel with dry rice, insert a cork and add boiling water. As the rice expands, well you know the rest of the story......:banghead: P.T.

Thanks, actually the DP51 is like a Sig P226 and Beretta 92 Mix. The action and slide design is like Sig, but the trigger transfer bar is like Beretta, at least what I can tell from the outside. Here's a photo. I tried to take it down by getting the slide lock out, but couldn't get it to budge.

Here's the xecertpt from my upcoming book, Modern combat pistols

Daewoo K5 / DP51 pistol is short recoil operated, locked breech weapon. It uses a conventional Browning-type locking system, with two lugs on the barrel engaging cuts inside the slide. Locking and unlocking is controlled by the cam-shaped lug at the bottom of the barrel. Frame of the pistol is made from aluminium alloy; all other parts are made from steel. Trigger is of “triple action” type. This means that other than traditional double or single action fire modes it has “fast action” mode, apparently borrowed from FN’s GP “Fast Action” pistol. In this mode hammer is cocked by the cycle of the slide, then it is pushed forward by the pressure on the hammer head. In this position, the main spring remains cocked, so only light pressure on the trigger is necessary to recock the hammer and fire the gun in the “double action manner”. Or, alternatively, hammer can be recocked manually to be fired in single action for maximum first-shot accuracy. Sights are fixed, with the rear sight dovetailed to the slide.

Manual safety: Ambidextrous levers at both sides of the frame, above and behind grip panels. To set on safe: pull the lever up. To disengage safety: pull the lever down; red dot will appear on the frame.

Field stripping procedure: 1) remove the magazine by pressing the magazine release button 2) check the chamber for remaining cartridge 3) retract the slide until the notch on the left side of the slide will be aligned with the front of the slide stop lever 4) push the slide stop pin from the right side, then pull and withdraw the slide stop completely toward the left 5) ease the slide and barrel assembly forward and out of the frame 6) remove the return spring and barrel from the slide
Assemble in reverse order
Hope this helps

Having had several, and now having a DH-40 (which is the same gun in .40,) I'd say they look and feel like a SIG built by S&W, and disassemble and reassemble like a S&W semi-auto. The instructions above should work.

I regret trading away a DP-51 (9mm) that I had a while back. It was a real tack driver. But it wasn't getting shot as much as others, and it was gathering dust...

When reassembling, remember to push down on the ejector and raised lever near it, or the slide won't go back far enough.

(CDNN has manuals for these, every now and then. And Century Arms, which imports them, may have them, too.)

AirPower, kudos on your Korean acquisition. Like Walt, I have the DH40 and have been on a lookout for its sibling, the DP51, for a few months. (I prefer not to purchase on the internet.) IIRC, this is or used to be the official sidearm of the S.KOREAN armed forces. I am surprised that your slide stop is little tight in removing. Keep us posted on your field strip and your shooting experiences on the range. Good instructions by Max.

Great info max, it's awesome. I got it apart and it was easy once I was sure of where to align the hole for disassembly. The gun was filthy inside but I got it for a very good price of $150 so I can't complain. Once cleaned the gun is like new inside. Now I just have to track down some magazines for this, any ideas?

Even at twice the price I'd say it's a good buy. Chrome lined barrel and very well machined parts. If Daewoo had done marketing work, this is something that can rival Beretta and Sig Sauer guns.

AirPower, voices in my head told me that DP51 can accept S&W 59xx hi-cap mags ;) But you'd better try this first before buying a biunch of mags basing on what i've said ;)

Model 59 (I'm not sure about 59xx) mags work perfectly, and I used several hi-caps with mine. (They also work, with minor modification in the DH-40).

Century Arms has mags -- but not hicaps. CDNN has mags from time to time.

Forrest Inc. has them too.

But find some cheap Model 59 mags and you'll be doing fine. (They'll stick out about 1/4"-3/8" farther than you'd like, but will function perfectly.
