I was really bored the other day and decided to paint my long guns using Krylon spary paint in gray and beige. I know that the finish will wear off and that it does not offer any protection, but I wanted to see how the color combination would look like before investing in DuraCoat products.

Ze, maybe the high temp flat black spray paint made for grills would be a good choice for the barrel while the rest could be Krylon.

There is also a line called Krylon Fusion that bonds with plastics.

The good news is that the Krylon does offer protection. The bad news is may be hard to remove for Duracoat.

The guns look good from here though.

I like the Krylon a lot. My SU 16 C was painted in January and so far no problems at all, my A model was painted about 16 months ago and still looks ecent. Notice I didn't say good, because it was my first paint job. I think it would be pretty easy to take off it you wanted to though, you are supposed to abrisively blast before duracoating anyway. I went with the Mall Ninja digital look.

I have yet to find a spraypaint that won't scratch off mags w/ my thumbnail
and vaporize off the gasport area of an AK.

You guys definitely have some good painting skills and once you use something
like duracoat, you'll never go back. Come on, make the leap.

The color combo looks good...I'd go with KG or Norrell's over Duracoat, but to each his/her own.

Here are some of mine done in Norrells

For metal Use Wheel paint! If properly applied the stuff is indestructible. I've had the stuff stay on the muzzle crown.

For plastic Krylon fusion is about as durable as anything

The paint has hold on for now. There are a couple of scratches due to handling but who cares:cool:. BTW, I used Fusion and regular Krylon.

Aubie 515, your guns rock, they look awesome. I really like the looks of the Taurus and XD.

Cameron.Personal your AR looks awesome too, you definitely have more spare time than me. How do you did that pattern? Template?

Yup wheel paint will stay on the metal. Hard to scratch and doesn't blow off the muzzle crown. Though color choices are limited.

Actually....

On Plastic, it does. If not better. I have duracoated guns for people and used Krylon plastic paint on others. The Duracoat goes on fairly heavy and always looks to me like its fairly thick. Now this may be a good thing. The Krylon colors the plastic, but doesn't "Seem" thick. I like it....

NOW, This is not on any of the metal peices at all. Then Duracoat is the best choice.
