Alright guys, I have decided that I want to try a ladder sight for my Marlin 336. I am also working on a deal for a Marlin 39A, and I would like to put a ladder sight on that one, too, if it works out well. Anyone have any experience with these and can you point me to a good website with a good selection?

I thin that your better off looking at a lyman or marbles tang sight. The lyman is cheaper and will do, but if you want real precision go for the marbles. I dont have a link, but just type in lyman tang on google and youll come up with something.

The true barrel mounted ladder sight is not really very good.
There are no positive adjustments since the actual sight part of it simply slides up and down with no positive stops or any way to lock the slider in place.
On many of these, the slider isn't very tight on the ladder and recoil causes the slider to move.
By far and away, the best traditional sight is the tang sight.
Due to cowboy shooting, there are plenty to choose from, from the super-tall Creedmore 1000 yard target type to the shorter types suited for .22's and carbines.

Note that the slider is held in position by nothing more than friction, and there's no way to fine adjust it other than by sliding it.

I don't know much about ladder sights. I opted for Lyman's #2 tang sight on my '94. Lyman makes this sight for both the Winchester 94 and Marlin 336.
If you want positive click micrometer adjustment though, look at the Williams Foolproof w/ target knobs. I have one of those too. I've found I can mount the FP and use it for more precise work leaving the #2 folded down out of the way. I can just hear several guys saying "why does anybody want two rear sights on one guy" while giving blank stares to the computer screen.
