ok got a 1911 (colt gold cup) with laser monogrammed aluma grips for the groom.

im going to be a dead man if i dont even the gifts out with something for the bride. kind of blew alot on the colt; so trying to keep hers more reasonable. she already has a browning buckmark; and is experienced with firearms so...

cant really swing much over 500 and would prefer something that can take grips so i can make a "pair" so hers/his are both monogrammed

was thinking of something that could double duty as a ccw and some range shooting. set on 9mm, thinking of one of the smith wesson autos; good looking and decent price, but i dont see aftermarket grips for them often.

Too bad I didn't know you 4 years ago conhntr, I would have recruited you as my best man. :D

Ok, I personally like the K9 for women (my wife has taken mine) and they do have removable grips. Heck, they even make a "Lady Kahr". Unfortunately, you'll have to do some serious shopping to find one for $500 or less.

i forget khar made a mid-size gun they are steel frame right? i dont want it to be really light and kick like a mule

There is no way I'd give a gun called "K9" to a woman.

The Browning Hi-Power would be the perfect match for a woman who's guy is getting a 1911. The Hi-Power is slim and elegant, an excellent choice for a bride. Find a used Browning/FN or FEG/Charles Daly or FM.

the steel kahrs are pretty heavy, and don't really have much recoil at all. My wife is pretty recoil-shy, and she found it completely pleasant to shoot.

didnt think of hi-power. i never shot one do they work for people with small hands (i.e women!) they are doublestack so?

Um, why is that? I might be dense, so could you explain that one to me? My wife had many many many pistols to choose from (including 1911's, HPs and other "full size" firearms) and chose my K9 of all my handguns. Not only does it fit her hands perfectly, but its 24oz weight makes it a seriously nice shooter! Mine is also an example of old-world quality where there's attention to detail when fitting/finishing. Women appreciate the little things like this.

It might help to find out what her preferences are before you continue searching for a pistol. My wife doesn't like the HP for the same reason she doesn't like any other double stack: grip width.

K9 = canine = dog. Come on Snowdog, work with me here. :)

The Hi-Power is a double stack. Like the 1911, it is one of the most comfortable full size pistols for those with small hands. Much better than the CZ75 in my opinion.

Yeah, I was suspecting that but figured any lady who's given a quality pistol that will likely fit her as if custom made for her will be able to see past any such silly "K9" nomenclature.

Can't go wrong with a springfield XDM, and the should be in your price range. I'd also say go with the LadyHawk, but at just under 3,000 bucks, that seems a bit high. If you want something with interchangeable grips, the CZ would be a good buy or Beretta 92.

I would venture to take her to the gun store and explain that since you got such a "insert glowing adjectives here" gun that you want to find the perfect gun for her.

That will depend on her likes, hand size, caliber preferences, and ergo / ascetics, maybe she likes pink, maybe she likes pink tactical, maybe a classic deep blue is the way to go.

If you do this right, you will get at least 2 weeks of internet shopping and weekends at the range and gun stores for the next month, shopping a guy can get into.

On the short end, reciprocate with flowers, chocolate and intimate gifts, with the promise of a gun for her.

And to end it, WOW you got a keeper.

ok thanks for recomendations; but im not picking any of them!

sig 238; and i can get the monogrammed aluma grips for it just like the gold cup. they will look like a REALLY cool pair! would go for a colt mustang but they are just crazy expensive and i want new not used.

"I'm not picking any of them!"

Yes -- exactly; whatever you do, allow her to make the final choice, even if you provide her with a list of suitable options. If you pick one for her, you are only dooming yourself to eternal failure. :)
