Laminated Hand Gun Permit

In Illinois our FOID cards are made of the same plastic as our drivers lic. If that wasn't bad enough (not) they use our drivers lic picture (LOLOLOL) really bad picture even though we have to submit a current picture with the renewal application.

This makes it easy to carry in the wallet. Wonder what they will do for our CCW permits, when that ever happens. (LOL)

Loudoun County here in VA gives us 'business cards' that say CHP on them lol. Flimsy paper, had to laminate it myself!
I have heard some people say not to, but the clerk in Henrico County told me I should make a couple copies and laminate them.

In AZ, ours says concealed weapons. Switchblades are also legal here. Since we don't have switchblade permits, nunchuck permits, nor club permits, I assume concealed weapons means concealed weapons.
It only says that one cannot carry a prohibited weapon.

Same in FL, a Weapons permit not just handgun. Not really sure if that would include a switchblade as that I believe is on the prohibited list. Ours are also laminated and have a holographic image of the state in a couple of places so a copy wouldn't work. Kind of wish you could, might well come in handy. A replacement doesn't cost much but I'm not sure how long it takes to get them.

All you folded paper permit holders be patient, maybe your renewal will have this latest upgrade; ID picture and all.

Hey, maybe if we all behave ourselves like good little children and don't talk out of turn, they'll add a retina scan and DNA fingerprint ... or maybe tattoo it on our wrists! clap.gif

My county in Colorado also issues plastic driver's license-like permits with photo.

State of Fl does the same

I wonder if any state will ever get around to just adding it to your driver's license as an endorsement, like a motorcycle endorsement.....

In FL CWP's are handled by the State Ag Commissioner's office, not DMV or FHP; no need to declare when stopped either

Ours is plastic too, just like a DL. The State Police is the agency that issues them, so they just use the DL photo too. Great. I needed two of those.

WA CPL permits are .001" away from defying lamination and still fitting in a wallet. It's as if the state created a form that is as carry-friendly as a civil war cannon, with wheels. But, superman at Kinko's got mine done, and my wife's. Oh yeah, no picture.

I heard we're getting smaller sized ones soon. Hopefully by the time mine renews this year.

The office clerk took my picture and within 60 seconds hands me a very nice laminated Concealed Handgun Permit; ever bit as nice as my driver's license.
They do it that way here, too. (I don't have mine yet but have seen other peoples'.) In fact, you go to the DMV office to do it.

I doubt it. At least in Virginia, drivers licenses, as well as Motorcycle endorsements are issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Concealed Handgun Permits are issued by the local police/sheriff departments.

Concealed handgun permits in Virginia are issued by the local circuit court.

The same folks you gave the application to.

The state police handle out of stat permit processing (and charge twice as much as in state) but a judge (or designated clerk of the court) signs off on the permits.

In Florida, the Concealed Carry Permit does indeed include auto (switchblade) knives. However, that portion is not reciprocal to other states, only firearms. So I have to leave my auto knife at home when I go to GA or NC.

Don't know about smaller permits anytime soon here in Washington. The format changed slightly about six months ago or so, and i guess it could change again, anything is possible.

I look at perhaps a half dozen permits each day (gunshop) and am amazed at the number of virtually destroyed hints of paper folks carry. Really? Sometimes we cannot even read the expiration date 'cause that entire corner of the form is gone! Come on!

On another, happier note. When I got my permit at the local PD, they laminated it for free! Gotta love living in a small town!

In NM the state department of public safety is the issuing authority, and they use your dl photo, and ccw looks identical to your dl.

I just got a new hand gun permit in my county of residense here in South Alabama. The office clerk took my picture and within 60 seconds hands me a very nice laminated Concealed Handgun Permit; ever bit as nice as my driver's license. It is an Alabama "Pistol Permit" not "handgun permit." Here is why:

Section 13A-11-70
Definitions.
For the purposes of this division, the following terms shall have the respective meanings ascribed
by this section:
(1) PISTOL. Any firearm with a barrel less than 12 inches in length.

Arkansas State Police defines a "pistol" as having a barrel less than 12" in the case of a Concealed Handgun Permit. The Game & Fish Commission also defines a "pistol" the same, for purposes of handgun hunting season.

I'm not sure why, though it's interesting that both a PPS-43 pistol and Draco pistol are still "pistols" under their definition...

Someone needs to clue them in on the fact that Nunchaku are agriculture tools that were used as an improvised weapon by peasants who were denied the right to carry swords by the aristocracy.

So if you ban them you also have to ban the possession of tractors as well.

I would not want my CCW to have my picture on it. Just another step in the process.

After the thorough background proctology check, you're really worried about your picture? Do you think they can't just cross-reference you and pull up your D/L photo?

Here in Virginia, the county circuit court gives us pieces of cheap paper that may or may not be printed incorrectly. One of my father's old CHPs was printed ~30 degrees off diagonally. Yay, bureaucracy.

We'd all like nice plastic cards, of course, but it is what it is.

I get a beautifully laminated pistol permit every December with an updated photo though I understand I can now get one that is valid for 5 years. At $20 per year might I add.

In the olden days I got a piece of paper like a fishing license. I still have a few of those old ones around here somewhere.

I hope they bring that to Virginia. The Va. permit if really flimsy paper. I had to use card stock and go to the local office depot to laminate my wife's and my permit.
