Just picked this little K-frame up this afternoon, it's one of the ten thousand South Australian Smith's that were traded back to S&W for M&P's, and to my great joy every one of these K-frames came back here despite the wailing & knashing of anti-gun Aussie teeth!

It seems they wanted these little beauties melted down, but alas(if you're a gun-grabber)the purse strings of south Australian LE decided that the financial savings were just to good to melt down, along with the ten thousand S&W M66's....;) I added the Hogue rosewood stocks...

Any unusual markings on it? My Aussie martini cadet rifle has a kangaroo on it. Maybe a wallaby or something?

Nah! just the LE tatoo, though it is interesting to note, the integral S&W locking mechanism has been disabled. So, apparently anti-gun Aussie cop's don't like to have working government mandated safety mechanisms on their personal arms, nope, those are just for the common folk....

IIRC the Victorian Police destroyed their snubs, these are from the South Australian Police. Different states, different policies.
I'm mildly annoyed (substitute another word) that they are not legal to own for civilian shooters here in OZ. My 66-5 snub was crushed during the last round of confiscations.
It's great to see that some are ending up in good hands.

It's really tough to see how Australia has turned anti-gun, just a shame that a nation founded by such independent minded men & women would trade off a good measure of their liberty for the false assumption of safety. This particular K-frame is in very good condition, it came with an oversized Pachmayr grip which was almost the size of the revolver itself, aside from some minor scratches it looks as though it was fired very little....There is no evidence of gas cutting, the breech face is literally in the exact same condition as is the breech face on my new 686-6, which is to say virtually perfect, not a chip, or gouge...At $479.00 I considered it a decent bargain....

Cool. I got a 4" 66-7 a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it. Like yours, it looks like it's just about brand new. I know the S&W die-hards aren't crazy about the newer model 66s, but for under $500 I'm awfully happy with mine :)

I'm a S&W diehard, however these may well be the last M66's we see in any quantity, BTW I contacted S&W and inquired as to the production date of this particular M66, it came off the line in November of 2005, and was then immediately shipped off to Australia...

BTW, do you have any idea as to what the south Aussie police were running for ammo in these K-frames?
