As I age, it is more difficult to focus on the sights and target simultaneously. I purchased a cheap laser sight for one of my pistols as an experiment. If this is successful, then I will invest in a higher quality sight. The pistol for the experiment is a 9mm with a 4.25 inch barrel.

My plan is to mount the laser sight and use a laser bore sight for the initial adjustment. I figure if the two dots overlay at 15 yards, I have a good starting point, then off to the range.

Any ideas, suggestions, or derogatory remarks are welcome.

I also bought an inexpensive laser for my Springfield XDS 45 for the same reason. So far I have adjusted the laser in the basement so that the laser dot is right at the top of the front sight on the wall at about 40 feet away.

That is a good starting point. When I carried a laser on my firearm, that was how I did the initial sighting in of the laser. Most of the time, the laser sight was close enough to the bore for me not to change it. But bring your adjustment/allen wrench just in case. It is important to keep in mind that as the range changes, less than and greater than 15 yards your laser sight will be less accurate.

Okay, it looks like I am on the right track. I might try the laser on pistol caliber carbine as well. Instead of 15 yards I will zero for a longer range. Thanks for the advice and your experiences.
