So I was looking for a bullet mold, it was suggested I slug my barrel so I did its very tight for a 455.......it slugs at .448. That said I am going to go with a lee 452 mold for the 250 gr flat nose conical......question is should I size it down from 452 to 450? I already shoot 455 dia bullets just fine.
thanks

You want to also "slug" the cylinders. If you do not have a full diameter lead bullet your pistol will not get the best accuracy. Some times a slightly undersize cast will shoot ok with a smaller groove diameter. So do measure those cylinders.

Now I'm confused do I need bullets the size of my cylinder or my barrel?

You might want to edit that last post!!! :what:

You want to size your bullets to fit the chamber throats.

If they are smaller then the bore, sizing to the bore will do no good anyway, as the bullets will be sized down by the chamber throats anyway.

ok please forgive my last post for those that saw it, that's not what I typed not sure what happened.

No please also forgive my ignorance but what exactly is the chamber throat on a revolver, Im not a revolver guy and never owned or loaded for one before.

A revolver chamber throat is the reduction in diameter in front of the chamber where it steps down to bullet diameter.

Oh ok I understand, So I want a bullet the size to the throat or throat size+.001?

Tight slip fit through the throat.

The orginial Webley load used a hollow base bullet that could fit through the cylinder throat and expand to grip the rifling.

Not sure what your situation will be with solid base cast bullets.

But the softer the lead, the better.

I have some 20 year old "factory loads" They were made from 45 colt brass solid base lead weighing 250 gr flat nose conical I suspect they are from the lee dies and a powder that is unknown but it is flake powder....I pulled one to see, any way I did not measure the dia on those, I am out until next week but I will measure when I get home, btw they shoot just fine 1.75 inch groups from a rest at 25 yards......I plan to get the rcbs hollow base mold also.
