Last week was a very good week for me, but bad for my budget. Monday I hauled some hurricane supplies to the Battered Women's Shelter here in town (Karmic foreshadowing) and stopped at a pawnshop that I like. They had a very good condition, looked like it had never been fired, with box and papers, S&W642-1 Airwieght for $269! I talked to the woman behind the counter a while (an aquantaince of mine) and she let me have it for $229 plus tax!!

Thursday I was driving back from a couple meetings in North Louisiana and stopped at a nice gunshop in the middle of nowhere. Turns out that they had just bought S&W collection from a fellow a couple weeks back. I agonized in the store for about 30 minutes, then started haggling. I ended up with an 'used' but unfired in the box S&W 940 with box, papers, factory cleaning kit and moon clips and a used but very solid S&W Model 12 Airwieght, 4 inch skinny barrel, round butt, with incorrect S&W round butt service grips (they are standard K-frame grips and thus gap a little at the top). I put the pair on lay-a-way for $600 plus tax! $275 for the Mdl 12 and $325 for the Mdl 940. I am dying to sell something big off and just run back up there and grab them.

So much for building an AR carbine or buying a HK91/G-3/Cetme!! :D

Holy Horace Smith, Batman!

The 940 is the real pick of the litter. Not many of those around, especially for the price you paid.

FIND of the WEEK...

Hello
I share in your finding timeless classics.. I STUMBLED on this beauty and POUNCED on it. It was made in 1958 and she has the original factory targets on her..A trip to the range PROVED why S&W named this Sweety "THE COMBAT MASTERPIECE" as well. Regards, Hammerdown

Not bad especially for the 940, I had to give $369 in 2004 for one in slightly less good of shape. Had to pay $300 in 2003 for a 12-3 2" in slightly better shape. Someone in my area is trying to sell his 940 with 20 moonclips for $650!

Sounds like a couple of really good deals and two nice guns, there. Missashot and I picked up a pair of S&W firearms last week, too. On Friday we went into a local shop for the first time and picked up a dealer sample 617 with 6" barrel for me for $385. Then, Saturday, Missashot picked up a brand new stainless S&W 1911 for $690. Naturally, we went to the indoor range on BOTH Friday and Saturday. :D

A 642 for $269?
Nice job, dude.
(I'm paying $389 for mine on Wed.)

A 940 at any price?
Priceless.

You are a lucky man.

Louisina needed some good fortune after Ms. Katrina.

Happy that good fortune fell upon a THR member.

You lucky basta'd. ;)

What is it about this month and all the S&W bargins floating around the country? You had some great finds, congratulations! I myself had gone over a year and a half with out catching any S&W deals and this month I am tripping over them. Sunday I picked up a 3" model 60 for 275 to go with the 586 I got earlier in the month. Latter that day I went to another shop and saw a 686 and another 586 in a matte finish.
